Bairdy: It's been a good start for England this morning but the icing on the cake would be Smith bowled on 99..
Pat Cummins runs a single with the first ball over the next over from James Anderson to bring Steve Smith back on strike.
Can he do it this time?

Ben Jones: My mates and I are responsible for most of the Australia wickets this Ashes series. When one of us gets on the London Underground and texts the others, the wickets start falling. Yesterday I took Head and Green on the Victoria Line (Cam Green while *at* Green Park).
Tim Callaghan: This is really disappointing from Australia. We’ve let a potentially huge total slip. Could have easily scored 450+ and batted England out of this.
Kevin Ticehurst: That’s a lot better from Jimmy and Broad!
Close! Steve Smith is tempted to go after to a wide delivery outside his off stump and the ball flashes through to Jonny Bairstow.
Smith remains on 99.
Stuart Broad is at his expressive best as he beats the outside edge of Pat Cummins, who just smiles back to him.
A couple of straighter deliveries are clipped away for two and then a single to bring Steve Smith on strike for the last ball of the over.
Here is the second wicket of the day as James Anderson snares the edge of Mitchell Starc.
Two rather fortunate fours for Steve Smith as he jams his bat down on an attempted yorker by James Anderson and the ball bangs into the turf before flying through the slips for four.
He then shows soft hands as Anderson finds the edge, but it lands well clear of the slips and zips away to the boundary.
Smith moves to 99.
Here is the first wicket of the day to fall as Stuart Broad trapped Alex Carey lbw.

Daniel: The age old solution to the Steve Smith problem: Get everyone else out.
England bolster the on side with an extra fielder after that last four but Steve Smith is aware and opts against another expansive shot.
Expect Smith to try and hog the majority of the strike. Pat Cummins can bat of course but he just needs to hang around right now and let the senior batter do his stuff.

That's Steve Smith at his best, just getting outside the line of off stump. It's a glorious shot, a full delivery.
That's a brilliant shot from Steve Smith, who whips a lovely wristy shot through mid-wicket for four.
Smith moves to 91.

Stuart Broad bowling wobble seam today, I think that is his best way of bowling.

If England were able to get Australia all out for the 360/370 mark, England would not be afraid of that.
James Anderson beats new batter Pat Cummins with a fine delivery outside off stump.
This is just what England needed. The ball is moving, there's some cloud over head and Australia's tail is exposed - though we cannot forget how well Cummins batted at Edgbaston.

That was a tempter from Jimmy Anderson. The away swinger to the left-hander. Mitchell Starc went for that, a windy woof. Jimmy Anderson will feel in the game. This is becoming a good start for England and they will be wondering why didn't they do that yesterday.

Great catch from Jonny Bairstow. There was no big celebration from him which probably tells you something about his mindset. Jimmy Anderson gave him a pat on the head.
Starc c Bairstow b Anderson 6 (Aus 358-7)
Another one!
James Anderson goes over the wicket to Mitchell Starc, who goes for a wild swipe at a wide delivery and feathers it through to Jonny Bairstow, who takes a fine catch diving to his left.
England on the money this morning. Though the relative lack of celebration tells you they know they need more.

That's the first one Starc hasn't middled, it's just a thick inside edge.
