  1. The turning point?published at 12:38 British Summer Time 29 June 2023

Things were looking bleak for England yesterday afternoon with Australia 316-3.

But this dismissal of Travis Head by Joe 'golden arm' Root, sparked a fightback by the hosts, with Australia losing their final seven wickets for 100 runs.

I've been impressed with Josh Tongue. It was a very left-field selection for the Ireland game. What's impressed me is his pace of delivery, he hits the pitch hard. This cricket is made for him. Because of his angle, he goes above horizontal. It's very difficult to line up. I thought he bowled nicely.

He bowls 5/6mph faster than Anderson and Broad and that is what England need right now.

Here is Ollie Robinson's dismissal of Nathan Lyon earlier, with Josh Tongue taking a smart catch on the boundary to continue his fine Test match so far.

Tom... from 316-3 to 416 all out Australia have thrown this away somewhat. My concern is when England bat, 416 is going to look like a very big score..

    From Ian Pollard, Worksop

Things didn’t go England’s way yesterday, but to take the last 7 wickets for 100 (especially with Smith batting the way he was) is outstanding. Let’s hope they can back it up with the bat.

Pleasantly surprised to wake up here in Jamaica with the Aussies out for 416.Good morning session!

That is the morning England desperately needed. They've certainly made I think a par score, they certainly haven't batted England out of it. England need a score, but that's a long way off. It's certainly going to be compelling cricket now.

Josh Hazlewood goes for a big heave outside off stumps and edges through to Joe Root in the slips.

    Australia all out for 416.

Rachel T: The Aussies are definitely coming up short here having been 300-3.

Jonathan Bergdahl: When was the last time England won a Test match after the opposition batted first and posted 400+?

Alex: Predicting now... England won't get anywhere near 400 runs.

What a moment. Only three men named Josh have ever played Test cricket - one is currently bowling, another batting. The third? West Indies' Josh da Silva. You. Are. Welcome.

I think the pitch is moving quicker than it did yesterday, it is nipping a little bit faster. A couple of the England guys yesterday thought it was hard for the ball to carry.

I think the Australia bowlers will like to bowl on the pitch. We've seen more movement from Josh Tongue, who bowls at the paces Australia will, that is a concern for England.

  10. Aus 412-9published at 100 overs

There will be no five-fer for Josh Tongue this innings but he can still get four.

Pat Cummins is no bunny though as he clatters the ball through the off side for four.

These could be valuable runs for Australia.

England would have probably taken bowling them out for 400 this morning. In general, Lord's can be a very hard place to stop people scoring. I think this could be a really good cricket wicket.

  12. Aus 408-9published at 99 overs

Josh Hazlewood is the number 11, joining Pat Cummins.

If England wrap this up soon then they can be well pleased with their morning's work given Australia were 316-3 at one stage yesterday.

A head-high bouncer. Robinson got this one right. Lyon tried to roll his wrists on it. With three men out, you thought it was a high percentage shot to go for Nathan Lyon, but he continued to play it.

    Another goes!

Nathan Lyon pulled a short ball for four earlier in Ollie Robinson's over. He repeats the trick a few deliveries later but the ball rises on him a bit more and he cannot get on top of it, with Josh Tongue taking a routine catch at fine leg.

I'm not going to call this a drop, but it is chance.

Nathan Lyon goes for an uppish slog the flies straight back to Josh Tongue, who sticks an arm out on his follow-through but the ball clips the end of his fingers and runs away.

Fantastic fightback from England, however this is where our higher order batters need to earn their keep. If it's nicking and carrying for us, it will also do that for Australia. Set a good platform for Root, Bairstow, Brooks et al. to really get stuck into.

    Joe, Bradford

38 extras?! Will be interesting to see how many the Aussies give away but take that off the current score and we are only chasing 350 for a first innings total!

Ollie Robinson nearly snares and identical wicket as a thick edge from Nathan Lyon falls just short of Ben Duckett.

The life in this pitch will encourage the Australia bowlers, who will be out there soon.

Pat Cummins then plays a lovely drive down the ground for three runs to bring up the Australia 400.
