Jonny Bairstow has kept well while standing up to James Anderson in this spell. He's much improved from Edgbaston.

It's a bit of a worry looking at this England side, they are all hobbling and holding shoulders.

Jimmy Anderson has started to get the ball swinging!

After a big out-swinger comes the in-swinger. It is sliding down leg but Steve Smith goes at it.

The ball is out of reach for Jonny Bairstow behind the stumps and just too fine for the fielder at leg gully to reach.

More hands on heads for England. Nearly a cunning plan.

One or two boos for Steve Smith again.

He looks like he needs a taxi off the Lord's pitch, Labuschagne is distraught with himself.

    Labuschagne c Brook b Anderson 30 (Aus 123-2)

    Breakthrough!

England gifted Australia plenty of wickets and Marnus Labuschagne has just given them one back!

It's short and wide from Jimmy Anderson, it deserves to be smashed for four. Labuschagne tries to do just that but hits it straight to Harry Brook at backward point!

    A real bonus for England.

  7. How's stat?!published at 16:42 British Summer Time 30 June 2023

According to CricViz's models for expected runs and wickets, Australia should currently be 111-4.

Perhaps, England should put everyone back on the boundary and bowl short. It seems to work...

  9. Aus 123-1published at 40 overs

    Lead by 214

I fear that Stuart Broad might spontaneously combust here.

He gets Marnus Labuschagne to inside edge one onto his pad on the drive but a couple of balls later, the Australian whips the ball through square leg for four.

Broady has been unlucky. He is a wholehearted performer and loves the Ashes.

  11. Aus 118-1published at 39 overs

    Lead by 209

Every run Marnus Labuschagne gets will hurt England now - and he's just got four more.

It's a good in-swinger from Jimmy Anderson, an inside edge but the ball goes away to the fine leg boundary.

Australia's lead has now passed 200.

Stuart Broad has walked in from mid-on to have a chunter to Marnus Labuschagne after that.

    He’s not happy.

I think Broad has just seen that Hawkeye replay on the big screen.

  14. Aus 107-1published at 38 overs

Stuart Broad has his hands over his face after Ben Stokes opts against a review another celeb-appeal.

Broad rapped Marnus Labuschagne on the front pad, it looked good and the bowler was adamant. He always is.

He was right this time! Labuschagne was a long way across his stumps and ball-tracking shows it was crashing into leg stump. Three reds, that would've been out.

  15. Aus 107-1published at 37.1 overs

Loose! Very loose for Usman Khawaja - and we've not said that much in this series.

He has a bit of a waft outside off but the ball, yet again, whistles just past the edge.

    Stuart Broad can't believe it.

If Australia set England 580 on the final day they would try and chase it.

    Andy Zaltzman
Cricket statistician on Test Match Special

Usman Khawaja is now fourth on the all-time list for balls faced in the first two Tests of an Ashes series in England with 693, just moving ahead of Don Bradman's 688 in 1930.

The all-time record is 999 set by Bill Brown in 1938.

  18. Aus 107-1published at 37 overs

Too wide from Jimmy Anderson to end the over and Marnus Labuschagne punches the ball away through point for four.

A disgruntled Anderson kicks at the turf and takes his cap from the umpire. He rarely looks too happy on the pitch but Jimmy looks particularly grumpy right now.
