Ricky Ponting’s son has been walking around the media centre during this Test. He must be about seven or eight but has been shadow batting and turning his arm over with some pretend leggies.

I’m already worried for 15 years’ time.

Thanks, Tom. There are still 39 overs left in the day so we're in for another extended evening session.

It could be a painful one for England. They need wickets and plenty of them. If they don't come then it might be time to start practicing your rain dances.

They'd better be good, too, because no rain is forecast over the weekend at Lord's.

After a frustrating session for England it is time for me to take break and see if a change at the wheel will bring more good fortune. Here is Sam Drury.

Tongue thought he had removed Marnus Labuschagne too but the Aussie batter had got so far across his stumps the review showed impact was outside the line.

This was the only wicket to fall in that session as Josh Tongue got one to nip back down the slope into David Warner's pads.

It's been slow and steady progress by Australia, they have fought incredibly hard there. England have bowled beautifully but without being able to find the outside edge. Stuart Broad appeals a lot but fair play to Ben Stokes for holding his nerve.

  7. Tea - 81-1published at 32 overs

    Australia lead by 172

Stuart Broad is absolutely CONVINCED Marnus Labuschagne has feathered through to Jonny Bairstow! Most of the slip cordon are adamant too, but Ben Stokes declines the review.

And it is a brilliant decision as the noise was Labuschagne's bat hitting the ground.

Broad brings out the celeb-appeal again the next ball as Labuschagne wanders across his stumps and is clipped on the back leg. Again Stokes stays strong and says no, with the Hawkeye replays vindicating his decision once more.

That eventful over means we reach tea with Australia in a commanding position.

They are 81-1 with a hefty lead of 172.

This Ashes series looks set to be decided by England's ineptitude in the field. Urgh.

If we can get them 200-5 then we are in with a fighting chance!

    Sam, Nottingham

Is this the last time that we see Anderson and Broad bowl together?

A maiden from Jimmy Anderson that saw him ask lots of questions. This Australian line-up are not going anywhere, they are resilient and are managing these tough sessions well.

  10. Aus 79-1published at 31 overs

Jonny Bairstow is again chatting away with Marnus Labuschagne as he stands up to James Anderson.

Anderson is accurate as ever outside off stump but Labuschagne is not having any of it as he eyes the tea break.

Looks like we will get one more over in before tea. Stuart Broad will bowl it.

ZS-NVB: Imagine if Wood and Archer were both fit and we had them bowling alongside Tongue instead of two 40-year-olds...

You've aged Stuart Broad by three years there!

You are watching a guy totally in control of his game. Khawaja is getting asked so many questions and he is on it like a flash. He plays so calmly, what impresses me is how late he can play the ball.

  13. Aus 79-1published at 30 overs

    Khawaja 44, Labuschagne 7

Lovely shot from Usman Khawaja as he guides the ball off the back foot past point and away for four.

The next shot is even better as he drives off the front foot through the covers.

    Khawaja looking in total control.

Broady has done well against Labuschagne so I would get him on early.

Before that Marnus Labuschagne boundary there had been 23 dot balls in a row.

  17. Aus 71-1published at 29 overs

Out comes the helmet as Jonny Bairstow stands up to James Anderson.

He has a little natter with Marnus Labuschagne mid-over. Did that impact on his concentration?

Because Labuschagne pulls a short ball that goes just wide of a diving Stuart Broad, who is back on the field after going off for treatment on his jaw.

England thought they had removed Marnus Labuschagne early, but his decision to review was a wise one.

  19. Aus 67-1published at 28 overs

I wonder how far we are from Joe Root time as Ollie Robinson bowls a maiden? We have about 15 minutes until tea.

There is a bowling change but it isn't that one, James Anderson is back.

Usman Khawaja has already faced 665 balls in this series, which is the second most faced by an opener in the first two Tests of an Ashes series in England. The record is 999 in the first two Tests of the 1938 series, Australia's Bill Brown did that.
