Zak Crawley twirls the bat in his hand. Pat Cummins gives the ball a polish on his trousers before he spins on his heels and bounds in.
Crawley finishes the over by working the ball square to keep the strike.
Five runs added to England's total.

I've been in these situations before and you just want a settling hour so people aren't scrambling around.
Australia captain Pat Cummins will bowl the second over of the day. His first ball strays on to Zak Crawley's legs and the England opener confidently whips to mid-on region for a couple.

England have got five from that over without breaking sweat.
Australia need a rethink. They have to put some pressure on today.
Swing for Mitchell Starc from his third ball but a thick chunk of bat saves Zak Crawley from a threatening lbw appeal.
Three more singles off the over. Solid start from England's opening pair.

You can't just expect to bowl wicket-taking deliveries all the time. Sometimes you have to build pressure by stopping the scoring.

Let's sit back and watch this England team throw this away by trying to win by tea !!! There is more than enough time left to do it sensibly.

That is too easy for England.
A single a piece from Zak Crawley and Ben Duckett from Mitchell Starc's first two deliveries met with loud cheers from the Headingley crowd.
Mitchell Starc is at the top of his bowling mark
Zak Crawley is on strike.
Take a deep breath.
Here we go.

This Test, like the whole Ashes Series so far, has been defined by swings in momentum. Australia have always won the key moments in the key sessions and find themselves 2-0 up as a result. England need to bat intelligently and get over the line to breathe life into this series and move onto Old Trafford at 2-1.

I am hoping the heavy roller which England had on day three, and then they had on day four, will just flatten it out and take some pace out of it. There is still plenty there and some good carry. You can see that from where the wicketkeepers Jonny Bairstow and Alex Carey are taking the ball.
Ben Duckett and Zak Crawley now average 49.93 opening the batting together in Test cricket for England.
Only Andrew Strauss and Marcus Trescothick average more as an opening pair for England since 2000 from those who have batted together for a minimum of 18 innings - the total partnerships for Crawley and Duckett.
England bowler Stuart Broad talking to BBC Test Match Special: "It is a big opportunity. When you win the toss and bowl and you're chasing 250 that is something that you're targeting. We were delighted to get through that little session last night and even though we didn't get a lot of cricket yesterday, ultimately it was a fantastic day for us to set this game up.
"You have to play well to chase 250 but this is one the quickest outfields I've ever played on in my career so I think you can knock a few runs off for that.
"We know how good the Aussies are as a bowling attack but we've got full belief in what we've got.
"Headingley does serve up different conditions and generally if you get overheads it can swing around, particularly with the new ball, but I don't think we can see that as a negative and look too much into that. We've just got to pounce on any loose balls and try and play in an attacking style today.
"I think the attacking mindset will stay today. It is almost like playing 50-over cricket today and being busy. If you just stand and prod around you can nick the ball on this pitch so be brave and fearless and go get these runs."

Andy Zaltzman
Cricket statistician on Test Match Special
England have scored 55.0 runs per wicket in fourth innings under Stokes & McCullum, a period which has included three of their eight highest successful fourth-innings run chases.
Over the previous seven years, they averaged 22.7 runs per wicket in fourth innings. Australia, as a bowling team, have averaged 25.6 runs per wicket in fourth innings.
But remember: stats do not tell us what will happen. Stats might pretend that they can tell us what will happen. Do not believe them. They have a tendency to mislead.

39 in the S&M era. 26 over the previous years since 2015.
Paul, about to watch son play in Salisbury while I listen to TMS
Average runs per wicket in S&M era- 38; since 2015, I’ll say 25? Here’s hoping the average before S&M is still high enough to run this down.
Luke
I'm going for 33.6 in S & M era. 19.7 pre S & M.
