Well, that was a frustrating day. The forecast is looking a little better for tomorrow, so we are staying hopeful.

We will be back with you from 8:00 BST tomorrow for all the reaction.

For now, here's Stephan Shemilt's match report from The Oval, and we look forward to you joining us in the morning!

First thing tomorrow, England face a task that has proven pretty difficult in the 38 overs they have bowled today.

Get Usman Khawaja and David Warner out.

And after all the emotion and all the theatrics of this morning, Stuart Broad's Test career lives for another day.

Can he be England's hero one more time?

  4. Close of play - Aus 135-0published at 16:49 British Summer Time 30 July 2023

    And there it is.

Play has been abandoned at The Oval on day four because of the rain, and the amount of time that it would take to get the ground ready again even if it does dry up.

Australia will resume tomorrow on 135-0, trailing England by 249 runs.

I've enjoyed the benefits of an outdoor press box for three days. The wind direction has changed, drizzle now landing on my keys, and I can confirm I am no longer enjoying it.

England couldn't really get anything happening with the ball all day, but I'm not quite sure these tactics were required...

I would have chosen Nathan Lyon. He was instrumental in the Aussies leading 2-1 and his absence was instrumental in turning round England’s fortunes.

    Is that you, Nathan?

    Grim.

The rain is very heavy now. It’s not very Bazball but I’m going to say it… this isn’t that bad for England.

I knew you guys would come through.

Meanwhile at the actual cricket, it is still raining, we still have no news, but there's barely anyone left in the stands.

    Sigh.

We've also been talking about the Team of the Series, as selected by the BBC Sport readers.

Usman Khawaja, the series' leading run-scorer, was the most-selected player with 97% people choosing him.

Jonny Bairstow over Alex Carey is also causing a bit of a stir on our socials, but you can still have a go at selecting your team here if you want to make any changes.
