Usman Khawaja reached his half-century off 110 balls with his fifth four. It's his 39th score of fifty or more in Test cricket with 15 centuries amongst those.
In this series he is now scored 474 runs, six behind Zak Crawley who is leading the way. Khawaja has faced 1230 balls which is the most by an opener in a Test series since Alastair Cook in India in 2012/13.
Was that a chance? A fuller Joe Root delivery keeps very low, flashes past Usman Khawaja's bat, through Jonny Bairstow's legs and away for four.
It is given as runs off the bat, though the replay is not conclusive as Khawaja's bat also hit the ground as the ball went past the edge.

We've barely seen any seam movement. The clouds are coming in and the ball is doing nothing.

That is the first hundred partnership for Australia in England since The Oval since 2015 when Chris Rogers and Warner put on 110.
David Warner clips Mark Wood off his pads to bring up the 100 partnership to warm applause from the Australia fans.
Wood then squares Usman Khawaja up next ball and finds the edge...but the ball flies through a gap and away for four to bring up his half century. Cue even more applause.
Another fine effort from the Aussie opener, who has had a brilliant series.

The crowd has been waiting for Mark Wood to come one. Someone who bowls his pace is coming on in the 33rd over which is a bit surprising.
Need 285 runs to win
Just the one run from Joe Root's latest over. Then, a huge cheer, the biggest for some time.
The reason?
Mark Wood is about to come on...

You get one warning with a beamer. If Jimmy Anderson bowls another one he won't be able to bowl the rest of the innings.

That wasn't a bouncer, it was a beamer. Warner did well to get out the way. That was a horror.
Oof, James Anderson has bowled a beamer, accidently I might add, that is fended away by David Warner and away for four. He played that very well considering.
Anderson apologises immediately. Warner nods in acknowledgement with smile on his face.
Jimmy gets a warning from the umpire.

England are playing attritional cricket, pinning Australia down and trying to do something that might get a wicket.

It's going to be good old-fashioned cricket here with a bit of variable bounce. The Aussies are working hard and the England bowlers are doing well.
It has gone very quiet at The Oval, the crowd are waiting for a bit of inspiration.
As are England to be honest. Usman Khawaja and David Warner are looking very, very comfortable out there.
Australia's target is now below 300.
Good shot. David Warner opens the face and guides the ball down to third man for four. It was uppish but perfectly safe as it was well wide of the only slip fielder.

Arthur Sharpe: This chase has started in a similar fashion to India's chase in the World Test Championship, on the same pitch (albeit with a slower run-rate). Long way to go for Australia still.
Another flurry of excitement as David Warner thinks about a big sweep-shot from outside off stump but changes his mind at the last minute.
Jonny Bairstow whips off the bails just to keep Warner honest, though he was well in his crease.
"It's my day, Woody. Nothing I can do. You might get a bowl when I've retired."

Mark Wood jogs onto the field late after writing out 100 times "I will not play Barbie Girl during the skipper's news conferences".

Usman Khawaja has to be alert to prevent the ball rolling close to his stumps after a back-of-a-length delivery from James Anderson smacks into his pads.
Khawaja then somehow finds the tiny gap between short mid-off and short extra cover to add another single to the score.
No real scares so far after lunch, though.
