Warner and Khawaja have played really well and this pitch has been getting better and better.

The bowling around the wicket to-left handers has really cramped how David Warner plays and players around the world have had to adjust their technique, he was a very good player of a traditional good length bowl going into the channel and if you can disrupt that, it can be good. Being able to cramp him up consistently has really slowed him down.

I thought we weren't going to get into day four or five so I've only brought two pairs of everything with me. I think I might be in trouble.

Stuart Broad gets one to keep a little low and it scuttles through to Bairstow on the bounce, which has Broad characteristically excited and animated.

Obviously England will miss his wickets and experience but his reactions are always such good value.

Oh, and his wind-up skills, of course.

Did Broad's bail switching lead to Labuschagne wicket?

It's a big few days for Stuart Broad, he's been such a legend of the game playing 167 Test matches and out there with his friend James Anderson who has played in 183 Tests.

That's a phenomenal effort and Broad will be missed from the game, he's such a competitor.

You just know that David Warner will be absolutely desperate to spoil the party on Broad's big farewell.

He's made a lot of starts in this series without kicking on, and it would be so on-brand for him to thwart England all day here.

Arjun Singh: Can someone run out Warner’s line to him? I think he’s forgotten the script for today.

Still no alarms. Three singles from Broad's latest over as Australia tick along nicely.

The good news is that it's looking brighter, and we may get away with no rain before lunch.

(Watch it start hammering down now.)

Usman Khawaja may not take the headlines but he has quietly had a very, very good series, and has looked solid this morning.

No Mark Wood yet, sorry Sam.

Time for a bit more Broad.

Moeen Ali is going at five an over but has caused a fair bit of trouble with the occasional ball turning sharply.

England will be hoping his injury is manageable, because there are early signs that he'll have a big part to play in this innings.

Australia have picked out the fieldsman a lot, but they are showing intent and going at it.

  12. Aus 49-0published at 13 overs

A crunching pull shot from Usman Khawaja is brilliantly saved by a diving Harry Brook at mid-wicket, and Chris Woakes gives him a clap in thanks, because that was a bit of a pie.

    Somehow, it's a maiden.

The players take drinks after the first hour, which started with an emotional guard of honour for Stuart Broad.

    Great shout.

David Warner has got three daughters, too. We could have Broad v Warner for years to come.

Rachel T: I’ve enjoyed watching Chris play, Stuart dominate, and eagerly anticipate Annabella Broad marmalising the Aussies in about 20 years time.

That ball from Moeen Ali has spun a long way and it's off the surface, not just off the foot holes. That's a good sign from an English perspective.

  17. Aus 49-0published at 12 overs

    Target 384

Oh! Genuine spin from Moeen Ali as the ball rags past Warner's edge, past keeper Bairstow and even past Joe Root at first slip and all the way for four byes.

Promising signs, but he ends the over with a long hop that Warner clobbers for four more.

Without meaning to make this day about me, those of you who were with us yesterday will remember Ewan's message, pointing out I said at the start of the summer that I'd eat a baggy green if Cameron Green did not take 20 wickets.

    Well, I've been sent this...
