  1. Tea at Northamptonpublished at 15:31 British Summer Time 4 September 2023

    Northants 232 v Lancashire 272-6

A middle session dominated by Lancashire's Josh Bohannon.

He has moved to 133 not out, his highest score of three centuries this season to go past 1000 runs for the first time in his career.

He added 92 with Dane Vilas and now has put on 83 with George Balderson, who has 36.

Lancashire lead by 40 and they will hope to push that advantage towards three figures after the tea break.

  2. wicket

    WICKET Hannon-Dalby b Lawes 0published at 15:30 British Summer Time 4 September 2023

    Surrey 396 v Warwicks 148-9

Classic tail-end dismissal as Tom Lawes produces a perfect inswinging yorker from round the wicket to put an end to Oliver Hannon Dalby.

Maximum bowling points for Surrey, making six in total in the game.

Chris Rushworth is Warwickshire's number 11.

  3. wicket

WICKET Roderick lbw b McIlroypublished at 15:27 British Summer Time 4 September 2023

    Worcs 284 & 19-1 v Glamorgan 170

Gareth Roderick was dismissed lbw by Jamie McIlroy first ball of the Worcestershire second innings.

Since then, Jake Libby and Azhar Ali have steadied the ship somewhat, taking the hosts to 19-1 from five overs, a lead of 133.

  4. wicket

WICKET Robinson lbw Carson 67published at 15:26 British Summer Time 4 September 2023

    Durham 265-5 v Sussex 266

One run short of parity, Durham lose their fifth wicket as Ollie Robinson goes back and is lbw playing across the line.

That's three wickets now for spinner Jack Carson from 17 overs bowled in the innings.

  5. wicket

DERBYSHIRE ALL OUT FOR 247published at 15:25 British Summer Time 4 September 2023

    Yorkshire 297 v Derbyshire 247 all out

Zak Chappell doesn't fancy number 11 George Scrimshaw much as he tries to launch one from Jordan Thompson.

He doesn't get all of it and Shan Masood gets under it at mid-off and makes no mistake.

Derbyshire are 50 runs short at halfway and they have lost their last seven wickets for 74 this afternoon.

Three wickets apiece for Thompson and Matt Fisher and a couple of Matt Revis.

  6. wicket

WICKET Briggs b Roach 27published at 15:22 British Summer Time 4 September 2023

    Surrey 396 v Warwicks 145-8

A useful knock by Danny Briggs, but Kemar Roach has his fourth wicket of the innings, bowling the Warwickshire batter via the inside edge.

With only Oliver Hannon-Dalby and Chris Rushworth left, it's now just a case of how much longer?

  7. Postpublished at 15:22 British Summer Time 4 September 2023

    Surrey 396 v Warwicks 145-7

Henry Brookes produces one of the best strokes of the day - a textbook cover drive off Tom Lawes for four.

  8. wicket

WICKET Connors c Tattersall b Revis 15published at 15:22 British Summer Time 4 September 2023

    Yorkshire 297 v Derbyshire 247-9

A useful stand of 38 for the ninth wicket is broken.

Sam Connors tries to pull one, but it bounces on him and goes up high on the bat and wicketkeeper Jonny Tattersall gets underneath it.

  9. Division Two updatepublished at 15:19 British Summer Time 4 September 2023

We spoke too soon (see 15:15 entry).

Ben Charlesworth is down the track and attempt a lofted drive off Colin Ackermann, but the ball skews off the face of the bat and Sol Budinger takes the catch.

Gloucestershire are 80-3, 35 ahead of Leicestershire.

  10. 'Bohannon continues on upward curve'published at 15:19 British Summer Time 4 September 2023

    Northants 232 v Lancashire 265-6

    Scott Read
    BBC Radio Lancashire commentator

Josh Bohannon has reached 1,000 Championship runs for the season, and its the first time he's done that in his career, after totals north of 800 in the previous two seasons.

Bohannon is approaching 4,000 first-class career runs, and he could reach that landmark this summer, as his impressive career continues.

Since making his debut in 2018 he's been on an upward curve, which if it continues, will only strengthen his case for full England honours.

Another winter tour with the Lions looks a certainty.

  11. Tea at Chelmsfordpublished at 15:16 British Summer Time 4 September 2023

    Essex 205-5 v Middlesex

The end of the middle session and a complete contrast to the first.

From 117-0 at lunch, Essex added 88 runs for the loss of five wickets in 29 overs and the game is evenly poised.

Josh de Caires is the undoubted star of the day with 4-60 so far.

  12. Division Two updatepublished at 15:15 British Summer Time 4 September 2023

A significant partnership at last at Grace Road, where Gloucestershire are 79-2 in their second innings and 34 in front.

Miles Hammond (36) and Ben Charlesworth (33) have added 69 since the dismissal of Ollie Price for one.

  13. 200 runs

up for Essexpublished at 15:10 British Summer Time 4 September 2023

    Essex 200-5 v Middlesex

Matt Critchley gets one away to the backward point boundary off Sam Robson's part-time leg-breaks.

That is the 200 up for Essex in stark contrast to the manner in which the 100 came up this morning.

  14. wicket

WICKET Green c Brown b Abbott 6published at 15:08 British Summer Time 4 September 2023

    Hants 308 v Somerset 100-7

Another one gone at the Ageas Bowl as Ben Green pushes forward defensively and edges Kyle Abbott through to the keeper.

The follow-on dilemma is also one which may be exercising the mind of James Vince in the not too distant future.

  15. Postpublished at 15:05 British Summer Time 4 September 2023

    Essex 192-5 v Middlesex

Matt Critchley and Adam Rossington are having to dig in for the hosts here.

They have added 23 runs since Paul Walter was bowled and they will hope to make it to tea with no more wickets down.

  16. 50 runs

for Ollie Robinsonpublished at 15:05 British Summer Time 4 September 2023

    Durham 238-4 v Sussex 266

Ollie Robinson nudges Jack Carson round the corner and trots through to reach 50 from 46 balls.

It's been an enterprising innings so far from the Durham keeper as they look to build a significant lead in their quest to seal promotion in the current round of games.

  17. wicket

WICKET Burgess c Foakes b Worrall 54published at 15:02 British Summer Time 4 September 2023

    Surrey 396 v Warwicks 127-7

And just like that, Michael Burgess' innings is over.

It's a good one from Dan Worrall which leaves him off the pitch and Ben Foakes doesn't drop catches like that one.

Three Warwickshire wickets left. Assuming no prolonged tail-end resistance, will Surrey enforce the follow-on? It's a hot day to be out in the field.

  18. wicket

WICKET Madsen c Bean b Hill 93published at 15:01 British Summer Time 4 September 2023

    Yorkshire 297 v Derbyshire 209-8

There will be no century for Wayne Madsen and Derbyshire's chances of a first innings advantage are receding quickly.

George Hill bends his back to induce a false shot from Madsen at it lollops up to gully.

Derbyshire have lost 5-35 in this afternoon session.

  19. 50 runs

for Michael Burgesspublished at 14:58 British Summer Time 4 September 2023

    Surrey 396 v Warwicks126-6

Great shot by Michael Burgess, who drives an inswinging delivery from Kemar Roach through the covers for four.

Two balls later, he posts an 87-ball 50 as he glances to the fine leg boundary.

  20. dropped catch

Dropped catchpublished at 14:58 British Summer Time 4 September 2023

    Northants 232 v Lancashire 245-6

George Balderson slashes at a wide one from Justin Broad and it flies into the gully region.

Emilio Gay gets his left hand to it diving full length but he cannot hang on. However, in his defence that would have been a screamer.

Lancashire lead by 13 now and this partnership between Balderson and Josh Bohannon is worth 56 so Northants are feeling the need for a wicket.
