  1. wicket

WICKET Abell lbw b Barker 19published at 13:42 British Summer Time 4 September 2023

    Hants 308 v Somerset 51-2

    That is very out.

Keith Barker hurries one through onto Tom Abell's front pad, and the Hampshire left-armer is grinning with delight even before the umpire's finger goes up.

    Stone dead.

Glaswegian Andy Umeed is in at number four, off the back of a brilliant One-Day Cup, where he averaged 87.57, and scored three hundreds in eight innings.

  2. wicket

WICKET Borthwick c FHP b Carson 56published at 13:42 British Summer Time 4 September 2023

    Durham 152-2 v Sussex 266

Relief for Sussex as Scott Borthwick is surprised by one that seems to bounce more than he expected and Fynn Hudson-Prentice takes the catch at point.

Borthwick put on 145 for the second wicket with Alex Lees, who is 87 not out and has been joined by David Bedingham.

  3. Postpublished at 13:41 British Summer Time 4 September 2023

    Surrey 396 v Warwicks 59-5

We have a bowling change at The Oval as Dan Worrall's seven-over burst of 2-24 either side of lunch.

Jamie Overton is on as first change and that's a decent opening over, yielding only a single for Michael Burgess.

  4. wicket

WICKET du Plooy c Hill b Thompson 30published at 13:37 British Summer Time 4 September 2023

    Yorkshire 297 v Derbyshire 173-4

A nice ball from Jordan Thompson round the wicket gets Leus du Plooy on the walk, and the Derbyshire captain edges it low to George Hill at first slip.

    A welcome breakthrough for Yorkshire.

  5. 50 runs

for Scott Borthwickpublished at 13:37 British Summer Time 4 September 2023

    Durham 152-1 v Sussex 266

Well batted Scott Borthwick, who square cuts Ari Karvelas for four to bring up his 50 from 85 balls.

He glides Jack Carson down to third man for four in the next over as Durham's total passes 150.

  6. wicket

WICKET A Cook lbw b de Caires 58published at 13:37 British Summer Time 4 September 2023

    Essex 135-2 v Middlesex

Two for Middlesex. Two for Josh de Caires.

The off-spinner beats the bat of Sir Alastair Cook, striking him on the pad in front of off-stump and the finger goes up.

De Caires has now removed both Essex openers and has brought his team back into things.

  7. wicket

    WICKET Salisbury c Bracey b L Charlesworth 0published at 13:34 British Summer Time 4 September 2023

    Leics 204 v Gloucs 159

No hat-trick for Zaman Akhter as Luke Charlesworth has Matt Salisbury caught behind at Grace Road.

So, no batting points for promotion-chasing Leicestershire, who have only managed a 45-run lead.

Charlesworth takes 3-54 in his first Championship game, while Akhter returns figures of 4-46.

  8. Welcome sunshine in Scarbadospublished at 13:34 British Summer Time 4 September 2023

    Yorkshire 297 v Derbyshire 173-3

Glorious sunshine at North Marine RoadImage source, Rex Features

The Yorkshire bowlers may be toiling somewhat, but the North Marine Road ground is a picture in the warm autumn sunshine.

Scarbados (Scarborough) deserves a break, too. The Championship match with Durham in July was ruined by the weather, while not a ball was bowled in the Roses One-Day Cup match last month.

Those people who have headed to the east coast (or indeed anywhere else in the UK for a holiday) this week are going to be very lucky.

School teachers and those with school children will not be sharing that joy!

  9. wicket

WICKET Wright b Akhter 0published at 13:33 British Summer Time 4 September 2023

    Leics 203-9 v Gloucs 159

Zaman Akhter bowls Chris WrightImage source, Rex Features

Zaman Akhter is the second bowler to be on a hat-trick this afternoon.

He has Wiaan Mulder caught at backward square leg for 29, then bowls Chris Wright with his next delivery.

He'll have to wait, though, as that is the end of the over.

  10. Postpublished at 13:33 British Summer Time 4 September 2023

    Hants 308 v Somerset 45-1

A big mix-up between Tom Abell and Tom Lammonby almost spells the end for Lammonby.

Abell tucks one into the leg-side, and sets off, before deciding there isn't a run there after all. Lammonby turns and scrambles back to the non-striker's end, but he would have been gone had Toby Albert's shy hit the stumps.

  11. Postpublished at 13:32 British Summer Time 4 September 2023

    Surrey 396 v Warwicks 54-5

Despite Gus Atkinson being away on England duty, Surrey have five fast bowlers in their team for this match and at this rate, it's likely one or two of them won't bowl a single over in this innings.

Warwickshire's total reaches 50, though, as Michael Burgess drives Dan Worrall away for four. He repeats the stroke next ball - importantly not trying to over-hit it - and it has the same result.

  12. Postpublished at 13:29 British Summer Time 4 September 2023

    Durham 141-1 v Sussex 266

Could be a tough afternoon for Sussex.

Alex Lees latches onto an Ari Karvelas half-volley and a drive through mid-off for four, followed by a single, takes him to 85 not out.

  13. Postpublished at 13:27 British Summer Time 4 September 2023

    Worcs 284 v Glamorgan 110-6

Chris Cooke is the new batter for Glamorgan, and he unfurls two wonderful drives off Joe Leach's bowling, one through the covers, and one down the ground.

    Lovely stuff.

  14. wicket

WICKET Browne c Robson b de Caires 59published at 13:25 British Summer Time 4 September 2023

    Essex 122-1 v Middlesex

Josh de Caires takes a wicketImage source, Rex Features

The first wicket of the match at Chelmsford.

Nick Browne goes back to Josh de Caires but steers it straight to Sam Robson at short leg, who clings on well.

Reward for de Caires in his 16th over. Now can Middlesex sense an opening?

  15. Postpublished at 13:24 British Summer Time 4 September 2023

    Hants 308 v Somerset 41-1

Tom Lammonby waltzes down the track and smacks Liam Dawson back down the ground for a one-bounce four.

Signs of aggression from Somerset after the break.

  16. Division Two updatepublished at 13:22 British Summer Time 4 September 2023

Ben Cox has gone for four in his first innings for Leicestershire.

They are 194-7 in the 54th over and this has been a great fightback by Gloucestershire after being dismissed for 159 yesterday.

Luke Charlesworth now has 2-53 from 11 overs.

  17. Postpublished at 13:20 British Summer Time 4 September 2023

    Surrey 396 v Warwicks 43-5

    No treble for Kemar Roach.

Michael Burgess goes for a drive and sees it fly off the edge and wide of the slips for four.

  18. wicket

WICKET Carlson c Van Beek b Allison 24published at 13:20 British Summer Time 4 September 2023

    Worcs 284 v Glamorgan 101-6

Something of a gift for Worcestershire.

Kiran Carlson chases a wide one from Ben Allison, looking for quick runs after lunch, but he doesn't time it, and Logan van Beek takes a sharp catch at extra cover.

  19. 150 runs

up for Derbyshirepublished at 13:19 British Summer Time 4 September 2023

    Yorkshire 297 v Derbyshire 153-3

Second ball after lunch from Ben Coad and Wayne Madsen smashes it through the covers for four.

That brings up the 50 partnership between him and Leus du Plooy.

  20. wicket

WICKET Benjamin c Sibley b Roach 0published at 13:18 British Summer Time 4 September 2023

    Surrey 396 v Warwicks 39-5

Kemar Roach is on a hat-trick.

Chris Benjamin's innings lasts just one delivery as he edges Kemar Roach to Dom Sibley at slip.

"Warwickshire are really tottering now," says BBC Radio London's Mark Church.
