    Somerset 210-4 v Hampshire - target 502

Stick or twist for Somerset? They're not winning the title, they're not going down...

They need 300 runs in 67 overs with six wickets in hand to register a seismic victory.

Tom Kohler-Cadmore carves the first ball of the afternoon session from Keith Barker to the rope at deep backward point.

He rattles the final ball of the over off the back-foot for another boundary through the covers.

66 from 83 balls for TKC. 10 fours and a six.

Is that an insight into Somerset's thinking?

Only three games still standing, but it should be an interesting afternoon ahead.

Is a task of scoring 300 in two sessions beyond Somerset against Hampshire's quality attack? Maybe not if Tom Kohler-Cadmore and James Rew can keep their partnership going.

How many more will Essex look to score before declaring against Middlesex? They are already 331 ahead and surely won't want to leave it too late in what is a must-win match.

Will Derbyshire offer further resistance following Wayne Madsen's exhilarating knock this morning? Yorkshire need four more wickets to seal victory at Scarborough.

    Essex 304 & 206-3 v Middlesex 179

Matt Critchley defends Josh de Caires into the leg-side, and that is that for the morning session at Chelmsford.

Alastair Cook and Tom Westley added 74 runs this morning, before Westley was dismissed lbw by Ethan Bamber. Cook fell soon after for a superb 84, but it's undoubtedly been Essex's morning.

Their lead currently sits at 331, and so the question is, when will Westley declare? Essex need to win this game to keep the title race alive, remember.

Job done so far by Yorkshire despite some brilliant batting by Wayne Madsen on the final morning at Scarborough.

Resuming on 65-1, the visitors have added 141 in the morning session, witn Madsen hitting 93 off 71 balls before falling lbw to Dom Bess.

He shared a stand of 127 with Harry Came, who made 58, but Yorkshire have taken four wickets and will be looking to secure only their second Championship win of the season this afternoon.

  10. Lunch at Southamptonpublished at 12:32 British Summer Time 6 September 2023

    Somerset 202-4 v Hampshire - target 502

Somerset have scored 100 runs in 29 overs this morning.... if it weren't for the early departures of Sean Dickson and Andy Umeed it would have been a perfect session.

Tom Kohler-Cadmore (58*) and James Rew (34*) have put on 89 for this fifth wicket.

They need a nominal 300 for victory, but Hampshire will have to think of a way to break the partnership this afternoon if they are to complete the victory they had put themselves in sight of.

    Another.

Matt Lamb comes forward at Jordan Thompson but can only get a faint inside edge which the keeper takes with ease moving to his left.

Thats 3-4 in 18 minutes for Derbyshire. Quite the collapse after Harry Came's resistance was broken.

Thompson is now bowling to Alex Thomson.

Liam Dawson inserts two short legs, stood a yard apart, just off the edge of the track, as he bowls to James Rew.

Rew is no mug, he whips out the reverse from the very first delivery and sweeps Dawson past the despairing dive of James Fuller and all the way to the rope.

Tom Kohler-Cadmore's third half-century of the season is brought up with a jab to backward point off James Fuller for a single.

TKC and James Rew (29*) have added 75 runs for this fifth wicket so far. If they can find another 313 then Somerset will have registered one of the great wins.

    Yorkshire 297 & 520-9d v Derbyshire 247 & 198-4

A beautifully violent innings is over, the 39-year-old tries to reverse sweep Dom Bess but can't lay bat on ball and is thudded on the pads. That's two wickets in four balls for Yorkshire.

Madsen scored 93 from 71 deliveries with 14 fours and three sixes. He scored more than one run for every minute he was out there.

Matt Lamb joins Leus du Plooy. SIx wickets remain. 373 the nominal ask.

Sam Robson's part-time leggies end Alastair Cook's excellent knock.

There's big turn there, and Cook is cramped for room attempting to cut a shortish delivery.

It gets big on him, and the Essex opener edges through to John Simpson's gloves.

    The lead is now 307.

Another lusty blow over cow corner for a second six off Dom Bess and a third in all for Wayne Madsen. He follows it up with another four boundaries again too. 22 off five balls.

He's on 94 from 69 deliveries. 14 fours in there. The chap has barely left his crease in this knock, my goodness.

    Durham 505-9 dec & 57-3 v Sussex 266 & 295

Ollie Robinson square cuts James Coles for four and it is handshakes time at the Riverside.

It took Durham 10.5 overs to reach their target after Sussex's last-wicket pair managed to extend their partnership to 45 before Fynn Hudson-Prentice was stumped off Matt Parkinson for 64.

The north-east county take maximum points and now need five more from their two remaining games to clinch promotion to Division One.

They don't play next week, but are then away to Worcestershire and at home to Leicestershire - their two main promotion rivals. Sussex must now try to win their last three matches to try and force their way into the top two.
