    Sussex 262 & 234-5 v Leicestershire 108

When Leicestershire strode out this morning on 68-2, replying to Sussex's 262, they could not have envisioned in their wildest nightmares that by stumps they'd be facing a second innings deficit of 388 runs, with five Sussex wickets still standing and two days in which for it to get worse.

Ari Karvelas stole the show with 4-14 in the opening 97 minutes as the Foxes' final eight wickets fell for 40 and later 69 from his teammate Tom Clark laid the foundations for the second innings.

James Coles goes in unbeaten on 43 and Sussex have their first win since April in their sights.

  4. Postpublished at 17:46 British Summer Time 11 September 2023

    Lancs 127-3 v Middx 194

Maiden from Jayant Yadav - and now we'll have spin at first end with Josh de Caires coming on from the Brian Statham End.

There's spin and bounce for de Caires, bowling with a forward short leg and a slip.

Luke Wells is forward to defend - and drives the fifth ball to mid off for a single.

  5. Close of play at Canterburypublished at 17:45 British Summer Time 11 September 2023

    Kent 446 v Notts 219-8

Kent were probably a bit miffed to have crumpled from 387-4 this morning to post 446, however they won't be too concerned tonight.

Bar one big stand of 131 for the third wicket between Steven Mullaney (86) and Joe Clarke (62), the visitors have lost wickets at regular intervals.

Debutant duo Aron Nijjar and Yuzvendra Chahal have taken three scalps apiece and spun their new side into a commanding position at stumps on day two.

Notts are still 31 shy of a batting bonus point and 77 short of avoiding the follow-on.

With a bit of weather forecast in the next 48 hours, the next session looks crucial.

Dane Vilas on strike, unbeaten on 21. Luke Wells has 60.

A mini session of play that Middlesex must win.

  8. Postpublished at 17:35 British Summer Time 11 September 2023

    Glos 377 v Derbys 235-4

Leus du Plooy has been scoring at nearly a run a ball and Zafar Gohar is bowling a tight line to try and stem the flow of runs.

The Derby batter is down the track to the fourth ball, driving to mid on.

Zafar bowls round the wicket and Matt Lamb almost yorks himself trying to drive. Just a single from the over.

  9. Postpublished at 17:31 British Summer Time 11 September 2023

    Glos 377 v Derbys 234-4

Luke Charlesworth has replaced the unlucky Josh Shaw in the attack and his first ball is driven imperiously through cover for four by Leus du Plooy.

A single off the second ball to extra cover.

Matt Lamb clips the third ball away through mid wicket for four more.

  10. wicket

WICKET Hain lbw b White 30published at 17:30 British Summer Time 11 September 2023

    Northants 250, Warwickshire 124-4

A big wicket for Northants - and a third for Jack White.

The Northants paceman traps Sam Hain for 30.

England Lions all-rounder Ed Barnard, back in his familiar No 6 slot after last week's failed experiment at No 3 against Surrey, is the new man in.

  11. wicket

WICKET Cooke lbw b Revis 4published at 17:27 British Summer Time 11 September 2023

    Yorkshire 500, Glamorgan 100-6

Another wicket for Yorkshire. And another for Matthew Revis.

Chris Cooke is given out leg before wicket.

Dan Douthwaite, having his first bat since April, is the new man in, as an injury replacement for Ben Kellaway.

14 overs left in the day.

  12. wicket

WICKET Harrison c Leaning b Chahal 15published at 17:25 British Summer Time 11 September 2023

    Kent 446 v Notts 206-8

Another for Yuzvendra Chahal. Calvin Harrison gets down on one knee to attempt a sweep but can only loop a top-edge up to Jack Leaning at midwicket for a dolly.

His face is a picture of frustration.

Dane Paterson comes in to join Brett Hutton. They have earned plenty of bowling points, can then burgle a batting one here?

  13. Postpublished at 17:25 British Summer Time 11 September 2023

    Glos 377 v Derbys 222-4

Josh Shaw has his hands on his haunches, no doubt wondering what on earth he has to do to take a wicket.

Matt Lamb inside edges the last ball of the 61st over past leg stump and through to fine leg for four.

  14. wicket

WICKET Root c Tattersall b Revis 4published at 17:23 British Summer Time 11 September 2023

    Yorkshire 500, Glamorgan 96-5

Billy Root is verty unluckly to have been given out caught behind off Matthew Revis.

The Tykes paceman puts in a good short ball, and Root fended it off but tghe ball came off his arm, not his glove.

Jonny Tattersall toook the catch but Root did not look a happy bunny. And rightly so.

  15. wicket

WICKET Carter st Cox b Scriven 16published at 17:22 British Summer Time 11 September 2023

    Sussex 262 & 210-5 v Leicestershire 108

The Sussex keeper is briliantly stumped by the Leicestershire keeper.

On-loan Ben Cox is standing up to the stumps and superbly gathers Tom Scriven's leg-side delivery and whips the bails off as Oli Carter topples forwards.

    A breathtaking piece of glovework.

Fynn Hudson-Prentice joins James Coles who is on 33.

  16. Play due to resume at Old Traffordpublished at 17:20 British Summer Time 11 September 2023

    Lancs 125-3 v Middx 194

Good news! But remember "weather permitting."

Conditions have improved and play is due to start at 5:40pm with 11.2 overs remaining in the day's play.

  17. Postpublished at 17:17 British Summer Time 11 September 2023

    Glos 377 v Derbys 215-4

Josh Shaw drifts down leg and Leus du Plooy helps the ball round the corner for four.

The last ball is edged short of Ollie Price and runs away to third man for four more!

Tense times in a session that could be won by either side.

  18. Postpublished at 17:12 British Summer Time 11 September 2023

    Glos 377 v Derbys 207-4

Gloucestershire are seizing momentum after a Derbyshire first wicket stand of 132.

But Matt Lamb is off the mark first ball with a back foot cut through point for four.

  19. wicket

WICKET Montgomery c Leaning b Chahal 16published at 17:11 British Summer Time 11 September 2023

    Kent 446 v Notts 199-7

Matt Montgomery departs, a ball after sweeping Yuzvendra Chahal to the rope.

The leg-spinner zips in a fuller ball, Montgomery plays inside it and drives straight to Jack Leaning at midwicket.

Brett Hutton is the new batter. The deficit is 247. Still 51 shy of a batting bonus point.

At this rate if Kent were able to win, denying their visitors points, Nottinghamshire could well find themselves dragged into at least the fringes of the relegation scrap in the final two rounds of fixtures.

  20. wicket

WICKET Rhodes c Zaib b White 44published at 17:09 British Summer Time 11 September 2023

    Northants 250, Warwickshire 117-3

Warwickshire skipper Will Rhodes is gone for 44 after his sudden bid to get on with it a bit comes to a sticky end.

He skies a catch to Saif Zaib at deep point

That brings in Dan Mousley to join Sam Hain, who has so far taken an an hour and 20 minutes over his watchful 29.

Still 22 overs left in the day - and yet more over-time!

But the sun is out and it is rather nice now in Birmingham
