    Leicestershire 267-7 v Hampshire

Leicestershire's interim head coach James Taylor spoke to East Midlands Today before the One-Day Cup final.

The former England batter said the good environment and culture at the club had allowed the players to go and "do their stuff" in the competition.

And that was certainly displayed today with the fight they showed to recover from 19-4.

  6. Side batting second to lose again?published at 14:28 British Summer Time 16 September 2023

    Leicestershire 267-7 v Hampshire

Since the One-Day Cup final left Lord's in 2019 and moved here to Trent Bridge following the pandemic in 2020, the side batting first has won both times.

Glamorgan succesfully defended a total of 296-9 to beat Durham by 58 runs in 2021.

And last year Kent's 306-6 was too much for Lancashire, who fell short on 285 to lose by 21 runs.

From the dark depths of 19-4 this morning, Leicestershire - and the heroic Harry Swindells in particular - have done magnificently well to get to a score like this.

But can Hampshire break the trend that the side batting second in a Trent Bridge final loses?

By the sound of the noisy Foxes followers at the end of their side's innings, they clearly believe they won't!

  7. 'Leics have a defendable total'published at 14:20 British Summer Time 16 September 2023

I think 260 is a par score for this tournament, but from where they were that is a phenomenal total really.

In this scenario when you do get a good start, from Hampshire's point of view, and a poor start from Leicestershire's, there is always a partnership at some point.

These two have created a huge partnership and really have taken Leicestershire to a defendable total.

  8. Leicestershire post 267-7published at 50 overs

    What a recovery from Leicestershire.

They won the toss but slumped to 19-4 and then 89-6.

But Harry Swindells and Sam Evans, two players brought in today for the first time in the tournament, repaired the damage with a superb stand of 151.

It's a score to work with - what can the Foxes now do with the ball?

Hampshire probably still slight favourites but have 268 to chase.

  9. Leicestershire post 267-7published at 50 overs

A leg side swing gets a thick edge wide of long leg for two.

Then a low full toss bunter over mid-off for four! More superb timing.

Final delivery is mistimed inside long-on for two more to end the innings.

The day of his career for Harry Swindells. He walks off 117 not out and has rescued his side.

  10. 6 runs

    Leics 259-7published at 49.3 overs

Scott Currie with the final over.

Short first ball and slapped to extra-cover for one. Then a leg side wide.

Tom Scriven slaps to mid-off and they scramble a single.

Short again but this time Harry Swindells is ready and uppercuts for six!

  11. 250 runs

up for Leicestershirepublished at 49 overs

    Leics 250-7

Great comeback from Keith Barker. Getting his yorkers in.

Tom Scriven squeezes one down the ground for two to bring 250 up.

Another yorker and a dot to end Barker's spell. 3-65.

  12. 100 runs

for Harry Swindellspublished at 48.2 overs

    Leics 247-7

    Penultimate over.

Keith Barker goes too far outside off from over the wicket and wide first ball.

Then Tom Scriven smashes to long-off to give Harry Swindells the bowling.

Swindells on 97 and he swings straight over the bowler's head for four!

A 90-ball hundred. His first in List A cricket. What an innings under such pressure.

  13. 'A fantastic innings'published at 14:06 British Summer Time 16 September 2023

    Leics 240-7 v Hants

    Sean Ervine
Former Hampshire all-rounder on BBC Radio Solent

That's a fantastic innings from Sam Evans.

That partnership has given them a really good chance.

There's no doubt that the Leicester bowlers have been egging them on to get as many as they can.

  14. Leics 241-7published at 48 overs

Tom Scriven the new man and a single means he'll keep the strike.

Fine return from Scott Currie who has impressed all day.

  15. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 47.5 overs

    Leics 240-7 (Evans c Weatherley b Currie 60)

    Scott Currie returns.

This pair have played very well - but they'll want a few more boundaries in the last couple of overs.

Singles to extra-cover, twice, and short-third man to raise the 150 stand.

A leg side pull but they can't get back for two.

Finally Sam Evans gets one away over the infield - but picks out deep cover.

  16. Leics 236-6published at 47 overs

Harry Swindells cracks the first ball out to deep cover for a single.

Then Sam Evans misses out on a full toss outside off before driving a single to extra-cover on the edge of the 30-yard circle.

Swindells back on strike and times a lofted drive wide of long-on for six! Great strike.

Good from Keith Barker to only let two singles from the final two balls.

  17. dropped catch

    Dropped catchpublished at 46 overs

    Leics 226-6

Sam Evans now having a dip.

Steps across his stumps and swings leg side but a top-edge lands well short of deep square running to his right.

And then pops one straight up to cover but down!

Oh my days how has Nick Gubbins dropped that?

Simple as you like but he's shelled it. Total shocker.

Just singles from the over and 1-30 for Ian Holland. Excellent work.

  18. 6 runs

    Leics 220-6published at 45 overs

Just two singles to open up the 45th.

Harry Swindells then gives himself a little room to cut past backward point for two.

Then the first real intent for a long while - a bit of a hack to leg and gets a thick inside edge to fine leg for four.

But no luck about the next stroke - picked up with the angle from left-arm round over wide mid-wicket for six. Lovely timing.

    Leics 206-6 v Hants

    Sean Ervine
Former Hampshire all-rounder on BBC Radio Solent

That's a wonderful half-century. I think all things being considered that's a great innings. He gave great support for Harry Swindells.

They just want to keep going for a bit.

I know they're in and they'll want to get moving, but what you don't want to do is lose these two and someone new to the crease has to come in and face.

  20. Leics 205-6published at 44 overs

Keith Barker returns after that new-ball burst of 3-32 in seven overs.

Didn't think he'd need a second spell at one stage.
