Nothing given away by Liam Dawson again.

And given the situation, no chances taken by this Leicestershire pair.

Singles only again and a superb save at mid-wicket final ball ends the over with a dot.

  2. Leics 124-6published at 30 overs

    Spin continues.

Mason Crane lands a goodun and Harry Swindells nicks it but through a vacant slip and almost to third man for four. Good work right on the rope.

Driven single to deep cover last ball.

    Leics 120-6 v Hants

    Sean Ervine
Former Hampshire all-rounder on BBC Radio Solent

"They are just building a nice little partnership. You have to try to take this innings as deep as they can and that will be the goal."

  4. Leics 120-6published at 29 overs

Harry Swindells tries to use his feet to Liam Dawson but almost yorks himself.

Then steers a single through cover before Sam Evans takes another single to the same fielder.

  5. Leics 117-6published at 28 overs

Sun out now at Trent Bridge as Mason Crane rolls in again.

Harry Swindells pushing firmly almost pops a catch to cover.

But he then takes a floaty half-volley past the same fielder and finds the shortest boundary on the ground at deep-extra.

Googly fourth ball. Watched carefully and blocked on the back-foot.

And the last ball is cut fractionally in front of backward point.

A misfield brings two and the chance for the Foxes fans to find their voice again.

  6. Leics 111-6published at 27 overs

Liam Dawson for a fifth over.

Leg side wide first ball and Harry Swindells then goes back and cuts to deep cover for a single.

But then a beauty that turns away and beats the outside edge of Sam Evans - not too far from off stump either.

    Another tight over from Dawson.

  7. Leics 109-6published at 26 overs

    Some turn for Mason Crane.

But he goes slightly too short fourth ball and gets smartly cut away by Sam Evans to the backward-point fence.

Last ball skids on a little and just past the outside edge.

    Afternoon everyone.

What a struggle this has been for Leicestershire.

Can they scrap themselves something to defend?

    Mason Crane to continue.

  9. Leics 105-6published at 25 overs

Liam Dawson back into the attack after Mason Crane's brief spell.

Three singles from it as Hants keep it tight and Leics look to build.

As the Leicestershire innings reaches its halfway point it’s time for me to locate a sandwich and hand over to the ever-willing Alex Winter for what remains of the Foxes knock.

It’s been some morning for Hampshire - Leics have it all to do if they are to make a game of this.

  10. Leics 102-6published at 24 overs

Harry Swindells and Sam Evans take four from Scott Currie's latest over.

It may be slow progress but they need to stick around.

They've not had much to cheer, but the Foxes fans greet three figures, perhaps with a touch of relief.

  12. Leics 98-6published at 23 overs

Shouts of catch as Harry Swindells takes a big swipe off Mason Crane, but it takes a bounce before finding the fielder's hands.

Sam Evans gives half a chance to Ben Brown, playing one off his legs, but it bursts through the gloves and they run two. Tough chance.

    Five from the over.

  13. Leics 93-6published at 22 overs

Harry Swindells is the new man with still more than 28 overs of their allocation remaining.

He and Sam Evans take a single each. A leg bye and a wide bring a mixed bag of an over from Scott Currie to an end.

  14. 'Ball said hit me'published at 12:32 British Summer Time 16 September 2023

    Leics 89-6 v Hants

    Niall O'Brien
Former Ireland wicketkeeper speaking on BBC Radio Leicestershire

It’s a really poor ball that said “hit me”. Lewis Hill tried to hit it over point and can’t believe it. He’d done all the hard work. He had the whole of Leicestershire - and Rutland - on his shoulders.

    Hill c Brown b Currie 42 (Leics 89-6 v Hampshire)

Another big blow for Leics as skipper Lewis Hill goes for a 56-ball 42.

Scott Currie's ball is there to be cut, but Hill instead gets a big edge behind to Ben Brown who pouches his third catch.

The skipper can barely drag himself away from the crease

  16. Leics 89-5published at 21 overs

Ian Holland fumbles the ball and gives Sam Evans his first boundary off Mason Crane's first ball.

A fine sweep from Lewis Hill then brings a second boundary of the over as the Foxes take 10 from Crane's first six balls.

  17. Leics 79-5published at 20 overs

Lewis Hill takes five off Scott Currie's third over and Sam Evans a single.

It's time for a change of spin as Mason Crane replaces Liam Dawson.

  18. Leics 73-5published at 19 overs

Despite all the carnage at the other end, captain Lewis Hill has made his way to 32 off 48 balls as he looks to give Leics something to defend.

Liam Dawson speeds through another over for the cost of just three singles.

  19. Leics 70-5published at 18 overs

Scott Currie is currently playing his red ball cricket for Leicestershire on loan, but is back in his Hants colours with the white ball.

He makes a strangled appeal for lbw before Lewis Hill plays a couple of nice shots, one denied a boundary by a brilliant Ian Holland stop.

Sam Evans is almost run out by a Liam Dawson direct hit, but the Foxes breathe a sigh of relief as replays show he was just home

    Kimber c Brown b Currie 18 (Leics 56-5 v Hampshire)

Scott Currie replaces Ian Holland at the Radcliffe Road end and gets another breakthrough for Hants.

Louis Kimber was beginning to look settled and drove a slightly overpitched delivery straight down the ground for a nice boundary.

But Currie gets his revenge next ball. Kimber shapes to drive again but tickles an edge behind to Ben Brown who takes his second catch of the day.

Kimber's 22-ball stay is done and Sam Evans is in.
