What saved her there is just how hard she went at it. Arguably, it's had a bit more bounce than the rest of the day. Nat has given it a full big of lashings.

  2. Eng 212-2published at 51.4 overs

All-rounder Annabel Sutherland back into the attack for one of those overs and Nat Sciver-Brunt is happy to let two balls slide through to the keeper before slashing at the third which races to the boundary for four.

Sciver-Brunt nudges the fourth for a single to bring Tammy Beaumont on strike with two left.

England's first target has to be to avoid the follow-on, which will change the dynamics of the game. Once Australia realise that they will have to bat again, frustration will cut in as England continue to lower the deficit. It also adds another headache for Alyssa Healy in that she then needs to quantify how big a lead is needed before declaring. Add to that, Trent Bridge tends to be a spinner's pitch on day 5, this is bubbling up to be a nail-biter - proper Ashes.

The thing with Test cricket as that they can block off all of Nat's shots. If I was part of this Australian team, I would know what field to set.

  5. Eng 208-2published at 51 overs

Tammy Beaumont and Nat Sciver-Brunt both pick up a run apiece off Jess Jonassen with the latter keeping the strike.

    We have two overs remaining.

Tim Miller: If England can get to the close with 200+ on the board for the loss of two wickets, that will be a very fine afternoon's work in response to Australia's mammoth total.

Tammy Beaumont hammers Alana King down the ground. It's not quite got enough on it to reach the boundary but that's three more to her total.

Nat Sciver-Brunt's attacking intent continues as she throws King off her length. First she cuts her through the covers for four and then drives it the boundary.

Great strokeplay from Nat Sciver-Brunt, it was a pretty risk-free shot.

I hate watching her bat, it makes me feel sick. I love it and I hate it. I'm sure it is for you as well, you all love to watch Nat bat, but I don't want her to get out.

  10. Eng 193-2published at 49 overs

Nat Sciver-Brunt is not seeing this through to the close quietly.

Twice she steps across the line and wallops Ash Gardner for two boundaries into the leg side before driving her through the covers for a third four in the over.

Hopefully that will give Tammy Beaumont a bit of confidence as eyes that maiden Test century.

    Amen to that, Ed.

Nat Sciver-Brunt backs away and cuts Alan King's leg-spin for a couple. She then picks up a single to keep the strike.

Still enough time for Tammy Beaumont to get to three figures.

Ed Quoththeraven: Anyone complaining that roughly four an over is boring or slow should probably think about how their excessive sugar consumption is affecting their attention span. England will get themselves back in this match with patience, there's no need to be reckless on day two.

Ash Gardner is frustrated with herself there, as is Jess Jonassen. Ash has an injury I think. She didn't actually bowl in the warm-up game last week due to a slight issue. I don't know if she is still struggling with that.

  14. Eng 178-2published at 47 overs

Ohhh Tammy Beaumont, the cricketing Gods are smiling on you at Trent Bridge this evening.

Ash Gardner comes round the wicket to England opener and she pushes at her fifth ball, a flighted delivery outside off stump, and edges it.

Jess Jonassen attempts to take a reaction catch at first slip but is unable to get a hand to it.

    Beaumont moves on to 92.

I have been impressed with England. We talked about how they would go about it. They have played sensible cricket, hit boundaries, hit bad balls. That partnership of Beaumont and Heather Knight, before she was caught behind to Ash Gardner (below), has got me thinking England could chase this.

Roberto Colombi: I’m sorry but surely it’s time for the women to have a three Test Ashes series - the quality is there and the demand - the players deserve it too.

Dave Foot: Daniel, 1754 - a mother ton, surely.

Adam: I've never heard this saying ever before?! I hope it doesn’t catch on.

She's in good form at the minute, Tammy Beaumont. I don't like the word form, nor does Tammy, having lived with her.

  18. Eng 173-2published at 46 overs

    Kim Garth grows grumpier.

She bowls short and wide outside off stump and Tammy Beaumont rocks on her heels and pulls the ball to the boundary with aplomb.

Beaumont moves on to 88 not out. There's enough overs left here for her to reach three figures.

With that Knight wicket, Beaumont needs to reset and play like it's the first over of the day again. It feels vital she is there for England tomorrow morning.

England obviously have no interest in winning this match, it's like watching paint dry!! Have they not been watching Bazball?

Here's that classy drive from Nat Sciver-Brunt from moments ago. A lovely way to get off the mark.
