  1. Eng 87-1published at 22 overs

Heather Knight capitalises on an over-pitched delivery from Darcie Brown first and calmly lifts it over gully for a welcome boundary.

Off the final ball of the over Tammy Beaumont dispatches Brown to the fence with a rasping cut shot.

A 50 partnership for these two. England are ticking along nicely.

A little short and wide from Ellyse Perry with her penultimate ball of the over and Tammy Beaumont slaps it into the covers for a couple more.

England gnawing away at Australia's total.

Faced Annabel Sutherland's father in the nets at school. He was no slouch as a bowler either . Glad he was on my team. He went on to play for Victoria.

When you realise Annabel Sutherland isn't playing for Welsh Fire again this year...

  4. Eng 73-1published at 20.1 overs

    Trail by 400 runs

Ellyse Perry is a fraction short and Tammy Beaumont picks up the length quickly and pulls it to towards the boundary. It looks destined to hit the rope, but the diving Darcie Brown flings herself full length to save two runs.

Fresh off the back of bowling as well. Top effort.

The Cricketer's James Coyne: It's hardly Bazball boldness but Beaumont and Knight doing the right thing so far: sensible accumulation and getting up to Australia's score is surely the only way to give Ecclestone something to work with next innings. Runs should come fast enough anyway on this outfield

Captain Healy is giving their bowlers a chance to find out which end their bowlers prefer, not that they would all get the choice. I wonder if its another way of adding a bit of variation without doing too much. The batter has to get used to facing each bowler from a different end.

  7. Eng 71-1published at 20 overs

    Trail by 402 runs

Darcie Brown with the first over after tea.

Her third ball is dug into the pitch but sits up and England skipper Heather Knight is able to swivel on her heels and pull it mid-wicket for a couple of runs.

The players are back out on the field. We'll be back underway shortly.

Emma Lamb was the only wicket to fall in the afternoon session. Can England get through to the close just the one down?

  9. How's stat?!published at 16:18 British Summer Time 23 June 2023

This is currently Tammy Beaumont's third best score in Test cricket. Her other two have been a 70 and 66 against Australia and India respectively.

    Thanks, Mike.

Encouraging start by England with the bat. Tammy Beaumont, in particular, has played quite fluently.

I hope you're taking a chance to grab a quick drink and a snack before settling down for what should be an interesting final session.

To that end, I'm off to get to work on a nearby packet of biscuits - it's of utmost importance to me that they're not allowed to get stale.

Here's Timothy Abraham to take you through to close.

Five maidens in the first 19 overs for Australia, but England are going at over three and a half runs an over.

A case of leave the good ball and dispatch the bad one?

They still trail by 405, a long way to go. You've got to be positive and there is still a long way to go in this Test match.

  14. Not outpublished at 16:03 British Summer Time 23 June 2023

No, nothing doing. Looks like it was bat on ground - Australia have lost an appeal and the chance to have another over before tea.

England batters lead the two sides off the field. It's been a solid start for the home side, with only Emma Lamb lost to the bowling of Annabel Sutherland. But they'll need many more sessions like this if they're going to match Australia.

  15. Australia reviewpublished at 19 overs

    Eng 68-1

Here's Ellyse Perry, as Kim Garth finally makes way.

Tammy Beaumount dispatches a low leg-side full-toss to the boundary. The second ball is a bit tighter to the England batter, there's a cautious appeal from the bowler and behind the wicket.

Hold on - they're reviewing that!

  16. Eng 64-1published at 18 overs

A return for Darcie Brown in place of Annabel Sutherland. Like Garth, she has now bowled at both ends in this innings.

Just the single for Beaumont, pulling to mid-wicket. Just the 409 runs behind - England are chipping away.

With England women scoring at currently around four an over, what should the equivalent name be for this cricket? Hazball? Kazball?

  18. Eng 63-1published at 17 overs

Consecutive maidens for Kim Garth who's bowled eight overs now. Played out once again by Heather Knight.

Two balls almost identical as well, almost the same reaction. Really well played by Tammy Beaumont, just flicking both through the on side.

  20. Eng 63-1published at 16 overs

Sutherland serves up two full-tosses to Tammy Beaumont. They're the very definition of juicy and she clips them away for boundaries through an empty mid-wicket area.

Better ball to follow as Beaumont attempts a cut and misses - almost an easy chance for Healy.
