That cover drive was lovely. The openers have both got through their first ten balls each, which can be a bit of a twitchy period. When they get to the spinners, they are as equally as disciplined as Sophie Ecclestone is.

Lamb gets in on the action! Half-volley from Brown and she drives hard through the covers for her first boundary. Straight out of the training manual that one, though.

Simon Morris: The odds for the draw at the start of play yesterday were 100-1! Hindsight, eh?

Front foot slap, wasn't it? Tammy Beaumont's been dying to put one away like that. Like Rafael Nadal, let's just pretend he wasn't left handed.

  5. Eng 19-0published at 6 overs

Cracking shot from Beaumont, getting on the front foot to Garth and crashing her tennis-style through the covers for England's first four off the bat.

Garth drops in another wide one - big stride forward from Beaumont but she leaves this one.

That would've been a screamer for Litchfield, on the full stretch to her right. Her wrong hand, she's a leftie. I wonder if Meg Lanning would've caught that.

  7. Eng 15-0published at 5 overs

Watchful from Beaumont, lofting her bat as she lets Brown's sixth-stump line pass through to Healy.

Chance there though! Brown finds her edge and it drops wide to Phoebe Litchfield's right at second slip. The 19-year-old gets her hand to it but it would have been a remarkable take.

One thing you will see from the Aussies is their fielding is the best in the world, everywhere, there is nothing rogue.

Better lines from Garth, who only concedes a single from the over - Lamb driving to mid-off but it's cut-off.

The Cricketer's James Coyne: Some conjecture about the Dukes balls used in the women's Test, after England raised concerns on taking the second new ball. The branding on the second is apparently different to the first. The ECB say they are from different batches of balls, but maintain the grade is the same.

I've got a lot of time for Darcie Brown. I've had my eye on her for a couple of years now. She doesn't complain, you throw her the ball and she runs in hard and all day long. I thought she was Australia's best bowler going into this Test.

  12. Eng 12-0published at 3 overs

Four leg-byes as Brown clips the hip of Tammy Beaumont and the ball evades a sprawling Alyssa Healy.

Hold on, replays reveal that was glove not hip - Healy would have had to have been capable of flight to pick up that one though.

Beaumont takes two more through backward square.

Ice lollies all around for the England girls and rightly so, they have been out there a long time. It looks like Danni Wyatt is drinking that.

Richard Clark: Surely Tahlia McGrath is the next Ellyse Perry? And Annabel Sutherland is the next Tahlia McGrath? You're right though, scary indeed...

  15. Eng 6-0published at 2 overs

Lamb pushes through square-leg for two from Garth's opening ball.

She sees out the rest of the over. Garth's line is variable here - she concedes a wide as Healy gathers by the slips.

I'm looking forward to this. Kim Garth has played for Ireland but has been in Australia for so long she is now eligible for them.

She's not a bowler I've seen masses of. I've faced her for two balls and she got me out, bowled. We were playing club cricket, I went out at No.11 and every batter had batted without the sight screen I faced one ball without it, asked for it back and lost my pole first ball after that.

Adele Mitchell: How have we gone from having a positive intent to now seriously considering a draw?

Couldn't half do with Tammy getting another 201 now!

That must be the hardest won five-for ever!

Tammy Beaumont and Emma Lamb are both confidence players, they both need that, but they've also got their number and stats from the last couple of weeks back that up.

  20. Eng 3-0published at 1 over

Fast and wild from Darcie Brown first up - her opening delivery bounces behind the stumps and heads towards the slips.

Brown gets England off the mark, manoeuvring the ball to fine-leg for a single. Beaumont drives well between point and cover to get her first runs on the board.

According to CricViz, Brown stands the best chance of getting England's openers out. She has a half-hearted appeal for caught behind off her final ball as Beaumont wafts at another wide one. Not this time.
