Aus 54-1
It was close! Marnus Labuschagne fell across it as the ball nipped back from Shardul Thakur.
No bat involved but it was doing just too much. Flicking the top of leg stump but it's umpire's call and stays not out.

It might be missing leg stump?
Simon Mann

It looked quite a good shout from here.
Has Shardul Thakur got Marnus Labuscgahne lbw?
The umpire turns down the appeal but India send it upstairs.
Missing leg? This could be close.

This feels like "old fashioned" Test cricket from way back in early 2022! A proper test between great bowling, a helpful pitch and obdurate batsmen. Loving it!
Joe, Esher
You may have spoken a little too soon, Joe...
Four more for David Warner.
Umesh Yadav is struggling to contain the left-hander and another back-foot punch is pummelled to the boundary.
A slightly looser shot later in the over but it's the same result. Too much width and a hefty edge sails over the slips for four.
And another! Guided down to the deep third fence this time. Warner is suddenly up to 37 after taking 16 from the over.

David Warner is looking in good touch here. He battled really hard to start with and now he is playing a few shots.
Warning signs for India as David Warner thumps the ball away through point for four.
It's a top shot and comes the ball after he had middled a cover drive but straight to the fielder.
He's looked good so far.

That was a terrific, competitive first hour, with some outstanding quick bowling from India. It was a proper battle for the Aussies to hang on with the loss of just one wicket.

That is the perfect on drive from Marnus Labuschagne. It is the hardest shot to play for a batter.
Warner 21, Labuschagne 16
Shardul Thakur beats Marnus Labuschagne with a beauty. It angles in at the stumps before nipping away to beat the edge.
It's some response from Labuschagne, though. A glorious on drive that beats the mid-on fielder in the race to the fence. Lovely shot.
Double bowling change. Shardul Thakur is readying himself to bowl the next over.
Umesh Yadav offers up a wide half-volley second ball and David Warner drills it through the covers for four.
The India bowler comes back well, though, and goes past the outside edge. Just a bit of nibble off the seam. The sun is out but there's still enough in the pitch to keep the bowlers interested.
Umesh Yadav is going to come into the attack now, replacing Mohammed Shami.
It's looking like a bright, sunny day now in south London. Suddenly losing the toss and being asked to bad first doesn't seem so bat for Australia.
Just the one wicket in the first hour. It came in the fourth over of the day as Mohammad Siraj found Usman Khawaja's outside edge.
The Australia left-hander departed for a duck.

Thomas Measures: Bit slow from Australia. Has no one told them that they need to go at over five an over now when it comes to Test match cricket in England?
Aus 29-1
Marnus Labuschagne gets three with a lovely flick through the leg side. He works it from off stump, it's trouble if he misses but he so rarely does.
David Warner is beaten by another ball that jumps up outside off.
Time for drinks, a fascinating first hour of this WTC final.

Each and every summer there are stories of listeners tuning in from the labour ward of their local maternity hospital. Unless someone beat us last week at Lord's, I’d like to claim the first TMS baby of the season on behalf of Poole, Dorset. Any last minute naming requests courtesy of the cricket are much appreciated - especially if Australia’s Ashes prep is severely tested!
Pete in Poole
Congratulations, Pete!

That's not where you bowl to David Warner.
