  1. Six-day Test?published at 10:16 British Summer Time 7 June 2023

We do have the possibility of a six-day Test - but only if there is a substantial amount of rain across the first five days.

Monday has been scheduled as a reserve day to allow for the making up of time lost during the match.

The sixth day will only be used to reclaim lost time, however.

If the match is drawn, tied or abandoned, the £1.93m prize money pot and the Test mace, the trophy previously awarded to the top-ranked men's Test team, will be shared and the teams named joint winners.

It's a big call from India to leave out Ravichandran Ashwin.

But then any team who can leave out the world number one-ranked Test bowler - with 474 wickets to his name - must be pretty handy...

Australia captain Pat Cummins: "We would've had a bowl as well but it shouldn't make too much of a difference. Hopefully it will spin on days four and five.

"These conditions should suit Scott Boland's bowling, there's some grass on the wicket and he should be a key weapon.

"It's been a great lead in. The weather has been nice so we haven't missed a session and we're feeling good."

India captain Rohit Sharma: "We're going to bowl, just because of the conditions. It's a bit overcast. I don't think the pitch will change too much.

"We've gone with four seamers and one spinner - Ravindra Jadeja.

"It's always difficult to leave out Ravichandran Ashwin, he's been so good for us over the years. It's hard but we have to do what is best for the team and that's what we've come up with."

OK then, we're just about ready for the toss.

We'll soon have the answer to a few interesting questions. Not least, will India actually pick world number one ranked bowler Ravichandran Ashwin?

David Warner described The Ashes as "the pinnacle of Test cricket" for Australia.

So with the battle for the urn just nine days away, is the World Test Championship a good thing for the Aussies preparation or not?

Pat Cummins is clear on what he thinks...

"It's a World Cup final so we wouldn't change too much about it," the Australia captain told BBC Sport.

"We've been playing brilliant cricket the last two years but it seems like every Ashes tour you start afresh and get judged on that.

"We're pumped and feel in as good a position as we can be so we'll give it a good crack."

  9. India aiming to end wait for ICC trophypublished at 09:53 British Summer Time 7 June 2023

Back to the Test starting today and India are looking to end a 10-year wait to win an ICC trophy - quite the drought for the world cricket's powerhouse.

Their last success in an ICC tournament came when they won the Champions Trophy in 2013.

That triumph also came in England so perhaps the wait will soon be over?
