  1. 100 runs

100 for Travis Headpublished at 64.4 overs

    Aus 233-3

Travis Head brings up a fantastic 106-ball century - his sixth in Tests!

The left-hander came in with Australia in a precarious position but has counter-attacked superbly.

He's had a bit of trouble with the short ball in the last few overs but a top-edged pull lands safely for him to bring up a maiden Test ton outside of Australia.

  2. Aus 232-3published at 64 overs

Mohammed Siraj has been banging the ball in short for much of the over but finishes it with an in-swinging yorker than Steve Smith is able to dig out.

Travis Head is on strike for the start of the next over. He's on 99.

Travis Head knew nothing about that. A terrific bouncer.

  4. Aus 231-3published at 63.2 overs

Travis Head moves to 99 but he could so easily have been out.

It's a brutal bouncer from Mohammed Siraj and the Aussie left-hander can only fend it off.

No control whatsoever as the ball balloons off his glove but it lands safely behind square on the leg side.

  5. Aus 230-3published at 63 overs

    Smith 53, Head 98

A relatively quiet over from Mohammed Shami.

All eyes on Travis Head now. A single from the last ball means he'll keep strike on 98...

I've gone from being excited about the Ashes to dreading the Ashes in the space of a day. Still; it's a comfortably familiar feeling...

50 for Steve Smithpublished at 62 overs

    Aus 226-3

Another half-century for Steve Smith. He gets there from 144 balls.

That's his 38th Test fifty to go with 30 hundreds. India have their work cut out to find a way of stopping him from making it 31.

  9. ouch!

    Aus 224-3published at 61.3 overs

Mohammed Siraj has set his stall out and he will be serving up only bouncers.

Travis Head pulls the second of them through mid-wicket for two, taking him to within four of a century.

The next thuds into the Head's helmet. The left-hander seems to be absolutely fine but the physio comes out to make sure.

That's got the India supporters going.

    A terrific short ball.

  11. Aus 222-3published at 61.1 overs

The India fans at The Oval - and there are plenty of them - are suddenly brought to life as Mohammed Siraj bounces Travis Head and leaves the Australian on his back after a tumble.

Strap in, folks, this could get interesting...

  12. Aus 222-3published at 61 overs

Steve Smith is on 49 and is happy to allow five dot balls to end Mohammed Shami's over.

He remains one off another half-century, Travis Head is six away from a ton.

Mohammed Siraj will bowl the next over for India.

Laney_33: I’m already sick of seeing Steve Smith batting in England and he isn’t even playing us yet.

Australia are scoring at 5.67 runs per over since tea. Bazball vibes from this Aussie pair...

The great players play the on drive and you have just seen the perfect one from Steve Smith there.

    A beautiful cricket shot.

  16. Aus 221-3published at 60 overs

India won the toss, chose to bowl but are already starting to look short of ideas.

Travis Head and Steve Smith look in complete control with the latter drilling Umesh Yadav back down the ground for four. Top shot.

Four more, this one is on the pads and Smith doesn't miss those. Away it goes through mid-wicket.

Trouble for India (and not really what England fans want to see either).

Unbelievable batting. He is seeing the ball so well.

  18. 6 runs

    Aus 212-3published at 59 overs

    Smith 41, Head 92

It's fair to say Travis Head is seeing it well!

Two balls in a row, he doesn't move his feet, just stays in his stance and shows off his hand-eye coordination with a pair of uppercuts.

The first bounces away for four and the next sails over the rope for six! Head is into the 90s.

    Andy Zaltzman
Cricket statistician on Test Match Special

That was Steve Smith's first boundary for 20 overs, scoring just eight runs off 65 balls in that time.

  20. Aus 199-3published at 58 overs

Loose from Umesh Yadav and Steve Smith can go back and crash the ball through backward point for four.

Smith moves to 40, the partnership is up to 123 and Australia are a run shy of 200.
