Shubman... what were you thinking?
This was plumb.

Virat Kohli has got away with that. He has no idea where the ball went.
Very, very fortunate.

Shubman Gill has peering up at the TV in the dressing room as they show the replay over and over. I doubt he can explain why he has left that.
Kohli looks like the superstar he is with his collar turned up and white sweatband around his forearm but he's off the mark in the most fortuitous fashion.
He tries to leave, gets an inside edge, ball whistling past his stumps and down to the fine leg boundary.

BBC Sport chief cricket writer at The Oval
For the bling of Cummins and Starc, there's the nagging feeling that Scott Boland will be the real test of England's eagerness to be aggressive.
His relentless, top-of-off method of attack is so hard to get after. Will England be able to hit him off that spot?

That ball from Boland didn't just hit off stump. It hit middle and off.
A terrible misjudgement from Shubman Gill.

This is the kind of sound they used to make when I came out to bat.
I don't even have to look to know who is walking out to bat.
The noise tells you it's Virat.

I think Scott Boland is high on the list of bowlers you don't do that to.
That's a total misjudgement.
Gill b Boland 13 (Ind 30-2)
A shocker! Shubman Gill has played no shot and let the ball go straight onto his stumps.
Scott Boland has got that to nip back off the pitch a little but it's a total misjudgement.
Australia are on the charge now.

Australia needed that. India were looking quite comfortable up to that point.
Here's India's limpet. Cheteshwar Pujara is out at number three.

It looked pretty straight. He was clearly in front and the height looked about right.
That is a big wicket for Australia.
Rohit lbw b Cummins 15 (Ind 30-1)
Gone! Big, big wicket for Australia and it is classic Pat Cummins.
He clatters the ball into Rohit Sharma's front pad.
It looked out - only height could have saved Rohit. After a long chat with Shubman Gill he decides against a review.
The crowd is quietened.
Cracked off the back foot for four!
This is Shubman Gill still in IPL mode. He dismissively whacks the ball back over mid-on off Cummins.
A fella in India face paint, kit and wig sets off running along the concourse with his green, white and orange flag as the crowd erupts.
Rohit 15, Gill 6
Shubman Gill hadn't hit a red ball for three months before this. Have you seen anyone get off the mark in better fashion?
Boland starts with a maiden.

In reply to the 13:07 message about how cricket helps exams, there are lots of examples in A Level PE that use cricket. A couple are things like selective attention (focusing on the seam position and movement of the ball whilst ignoring the crowd), and decision making (attacking, defending etc…). It’s really interesting.
Josh from Nottingham (who’s just finished a level PE forever)
I once answered an essay question to do with diversity and equality in GCSE RE entirely about the England cricket team. Got an A as well.

Here's an early change.
Scott Boland, a man who big things are expected this summer, replaces Mitchell Starc after two overs.
Australia captain Pat Cummins settles things back down with a tidy over of his relentlessly accurate pace.
"Do it like this please, lads."

If India get in here it could be Sharmaball not Bazball.
They can shift it along these fellas.
