Australia opener David Warner, speaking to TMS: "We felt we had to knuckle down and see off the new ball. Both opening bowlers bowled pretty well but I felt as a batsman I wasn't challenged enough from my front foot defence. It was OK to leave on length.

"With me and Marnus being dismissed, what an amazing [partnership] from Smithy and Heady. Heady never ceases to amaze us. He showed his true colours putting the pressure on the bowlers.

"Hopefully we can bat deep, go past 500 and have a bowl after tea."

Things started to go downhill for India in afternoon session as Australia took control.

The early cloud disappeared and the sun emerged. The surface did offer a bit for the seamers, but it looked a decent track to bat on.

When Marnus Labuschagne was dismissed just after lunch Australia were wobbling at 76-3.

    But...
