Australia's skipper Pat Cummins speaking on Sky Sports: "The way Travis and Smith put on that partnership put us at ease.

"Steve has been brilliant, he puts the pressure right back on the bowlers and as a bowler you're thinking about how to stop runs and instead of take wickets and it's because of him.

"At times we weren't our slickest but for the most part we were in control.

"Boland was fantastic, he's now my favourite player, everyone just did their role really well.

"We came into this have different preparation but everyone was switched on. We'll savour this and then turn our attention to the Ashes.

"It's huge for this format, you can ask anyone in the dressing room this is our favourite format, we grew up watching it and it's the format you get the most satisfaction when you win."

Michael: So much depended on the toss. Wouldn’t the final be fairer over a three-match series?

    India won the toss...

  5. 'We'll fight to reach the next final'published at 13:15 British Summer Time 11 June 2023

More from Rohit Sharma on losing another final: "We worked hard those four years, playing two finals is a good achievement for us but, yeah, we would like to go a mile ahead of that as well.

"Unfortunately, the Test Championship final comes every two years. You can't take the credit away from what we have done in those two years to reach finals. It was a great effort from the whole unit, a lot of players took part.

"It has been unfortunate that we haven't been able to win the finals but we'll fight to reach the next final as well."

  6. 'We let ourselves down a little bit'published at 13:13 British Summer Time 11 June 2023

India captain Rohit Sharma, speaking at the presentation: "It was a tough one. I thought we started well with winning the toss and we bowled pretty well in the first session. Then we let ourselves down a little bit with how he bowled.

"But you have to give credit to the Australian batters, especially Travis Head came in and played really well along with Steven Smith. That took us off guard and we knew it was hard to come back. We put up a good show, fought to the end but congratulations to Australia.

"We spoke of a lot of things, bowled tighter lines, tried different stuff as well but it didn't work out. That can happen.

"In the second innings, we didn't apply ourselves with the bat. It was good pitch to bat on all five days, the pitch behaved pretty well but we didn't capitalise."

If England win that first Test in the same manner they have been playing then Australia will have to go away and rethink their game.

But if England just thrash the ball around then they might think they have to go harder and lose it all. Everything is on that first game.

Australia are in a pretty good place coming out of this game. Their major issue is if they go with Cummins, Starc, Hazlewood, Boland? Who is going to play?

That's their dilemma and it's a nice one to have.

I'm really looking forward to the Ashes. This Australia bowling unit is really good. They are bowling the right channels, right line and length so it's going to be extremely interesting. Especially the brand of cricket England are playing against this attack.

The presentation is just beginning. Australia will soon have their hands on the Test championship mace.

It's not been about the last five days. India haven't won an ICC trophy since 2013. It's now about the past 10 years. We've done alright to qualify for the Test Championship and they haven't won and that says a lot.

  15. 'The start of a massive summer'published at 12:57 British Summer Time 11 June 2023

Australia's Nathan Lyon speaking to Test Match Special: "It's massive, I'm really proud of the guys that have playing cricket all over the world. We knew it was going to have to be hard work but it's nice to enjoy.

"Our method has been calm at the crease and doing the basics well, when we do that we're in a decent spot. It's the start of a massive summer with the Ashes."

On the Ashes: "Of course I've had one eye on the Ashes. We'll reflect on this and then prepare for the Ashes.

"It's going to be a challenging workload but we're lucky we have the best support staff in the world."

The Ashes or the Mace?: "Both trophies, it's a silly question. You're asking a professional athlete if they want to lose."

  17. 'It felt pretty good to get Kohli'published at 12:55 British Summer Time 11 June 2023

Australia bowler Scott Boland, speaking on Sky Sports: "That was good fun. It was nice, it felt pretty good to get Kohli out. It was nice to get two in an over too. Smudge [Steve Smith] took another amazing catch today and Greeny took some blinders. It is good to have the confidence.

"I have been playing state cricket for Victoria for 12 years. I have done some hard work and it is nice to play international cricket and get some wickets."

Here's the moment Australia clinched the World Test Championship title...

  19. 'We dominated the game since day one' - Smithpublished at 12:52 British Summer Time 11 June 2023

Australia's Steve Smith speaking to Test Match Special: "It's a lot of hard work that has gone into this, I feel like we've dominated the game from day one and let them back in glimpses, a few errors with no balls and dropped catches, but outside of the that it was a polished performance and we knew that the first partnership was a big one to break."

On his catch to dismiss Virat Kohli: "It was a big moment, we know how good Kohli is particularly chasing a big total. It opened the game up for us."

On the Test Championship importance: "I've said since this started it gives every game you play a lot more relevance, to get to the finals and win is amazing.

"The timing of the final isn't ideal but I don't know where else in the calendar you'd fit it in. Hopefully we can keep playing some good cricket."

The Ashes or the Mace?: "I can't say either is bigger, they're both big. We've played for two years. Winning an away Ashes is big."

  20. 'It's been an amazing week'published at 12:51 British Summer Time 11 June 2023

Player of the match, Australia batter Travis Head: "It's amazing, you come here and give it a crack but it is hard to imagine. There's a lot of hard work gone in over the last two years so it's nice.

On his positive batting: "That's been the approach for those two years. I said in the week that if balls are there to be scored off, I want to be proactive and score off them. Then when they put the ball in nice areas, be good enough to stay out there for a long period of time.

"I was tested throughout the innings. I knew that coming in so I had an eye for what plans they were going to come to. To be out there with [Steve Smith] and bat as well as we did - it was an amazing week."
