We knew today would go one way or the other and the partnership at the start between India was so vital.

Australia are totally in control and off to a positive start ahead of Friday.

  2. Ind 224-9published at 62 overs

India need 220 to win as last man Mohammed Siraj takes his guard.

    Good luck.

Anyone could have taken that catch. Australia are on the verge.

  4. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 61.5 overs

    Bharat c&b Lyon 23 (Ind 224-9)

This one is out! KS Bharat has a slog, he may as well in this situation, but just skies the ball in the air. Nathan Lyon calls for it and takes an easy catch.

Australia need one wicket for the world title.

  5. Not outpublished at 12:26 British Summer Time 11 June 2023

KS Bharat's foot was out of the crease as he lurched forward to Nathan Lyon but he's got it back.

My inclination is that the back foot was behind the line.

We're going upstairs for a stumping.

The Aussies don't seem too excited.

If you were picking a combined England/Australia bowling line up, would any England bowlers make the line up?

  9. Ind 224-8published at 61 overs

Australia need two wickets to win

There's no point in Mohammed Shami hanging around. He uppercuts another bouncer from Starc over the slips for four.

Lunch is due to be at 12:30 BST but we can continue with Australia on the brink.

    Justin Langer
Former Australia batter on Test Match Special

Starc, since the last Ashes, is a better bowler. His length and consistency has improved.

We know if Starc is swinging the Dukes ball as a left-armer, it usually causes headaches in this country.

This is a hopeless task now for India. The crowd is quiet and they know where the game is going.

  12. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 60.2 overs

    Umesh c Carey b Starc 1 (Ind 220-8)

This is why you pick Mitchell Starc! Umesh Yadav doesn't know whether he's going to break his toes or knock his head off. Starc goes for the latter, Umesh gets in a tangle and gloves the ball through to Alex Carey, who takes a fine catch.

  13. Ind 220-7published at 60 overs

Australia need three wickets to win

Pat Cummins, as captain, is obviously going to play in the first Ashes Test. The other option would be to leave out Mitchell Starc but he brings variation with his left-arm angle and creates rough for Nathan Lyon.

    Justin Langer

My gut feeling is that if Josh Hazlewood is fit then he will play. Nathan Lyon is going to be the difference in the Test series, he's a world-class spinner and England don't have that.

  15. Ind 218-7published at 59 overs

    Target 444

Justin Langer is going through the permutations of Australia's XI. He reckons Josh Hazlewood will play at Edgbaston next week so who do they drop?

You'd be a brave man to leave out Scott Boland...

The difference for me has been in the top order batters, centuries win matches but 40s don't.

Just look at the contrast in emotions here...

  18. Ind 213-7published at 58 overs

Australia need three wickets to win

This victory will complete the set for Australia.

Their men's and women's teams have already won the T20 and 50-over World Cups.

  19. Postpublished at 12:06 British Summer Time 11 June 2023

Umesh Yadav is the new batter. He may as well have a slog.

I said this earlier, if Virat Kohli was out early, it could all be over before lunch.
