Kohli will be kicking himself, it was wide of the off stump so he could've left it. That is an absolute belter of a catch by Steve Smith.

A brilliant catch and that puts silence in the crowd.

This one is out, however. Brilliant catch from Steve Smith!

The Oval falls deadly silent. Virat Kohli has chased a drive outside off stump, edged and Smith leaps to his right to take it. The Australian team all mob their former captain.

    Is that the game?

    They never learn these Australians.

Kohli is grinning. He's not worried.

This seems like a strange review, their success rate with DRS hasn't been good.

  7. Australia reviewpublished at 46.1 overs

    Nervy...

Scott Boland beats Virat Kohli outside off stump.

Marnus Labuschagne is the only one who appeals but Pat Cummins reviews, probably because it's Kohli.

  8. Ind 179-3published at 46 overs

Even if this wait for a wicket goes on, Australia will know one wicket really breaks it open for them. Ravindra Jadeja is a very good batter but number six is probably a place high. KS Bharat, India's wicketkeeper, has never scored a Test fifty.

Virat Kohli is on the brink of his fifty.

India still need 268, we know it's a mammoth total. This Australia bowling attack is one of the best in the world. I guess from an India point of view if they can get through to the new ball without having lost a wicket they give themselves a sniff but it's a big old mountain for them.

    Target 444

We've got to the point where the TV graphics are showing 'runs to win' below the score. There's still 268 to get. That's still a loooong way away but there haven't been any real scares so far - or anything for the Australians to get excited about.

Virat hasn't scored a hundred in the fourth innings of a Test since 2014. His highest score in the fourth innings when India have won is 51 not out. If India are to win, you suspect both of those will have to change today.

That's lucky for Ajinkya Rahane. He shapes to pull a bouncer from Pat Cummins, looks like he ends up wanting to bail out but it still hits his bat which is still waving high above his head.

It could have gone anywhere but fortunately for Rahane it goes down to fine leg for four.

Anushka Sharma, the Indian actress and wife of Virat Kohli, applauds from somewhere in the posh seats.

The amount of swing the players have been able to generate is less and the amount of deviation off the pitch has also come down throughout the match.

As each day has gone past, the pitch has got slower and yesterday we saw less inconsistent bounce than what we have seen on the previous days. The pitch has eased through the course of the game.

  14. Ind 169-3published at 43 overs

    Kohli 45, Rahane 24

Scott Boland hits Virat Kohli's pad and there's a brief chat between the Aussie players about whether they should review. There's another cheer from the stands when they decide against it.

Ajinkya Rahane took his hand off the bat there before it made contact with the ball so it's obvious he is struggling with that hand.

As you'd expect the crowd is dominated by India fans - most decked out in blue one-day shirts. But there are a few Aussies in the house. One youngster has an inflatable kangaroo.

Four from Pat Cummins' first over.

  18. Ind 165-3published at 41.1 overs

I bet they could hear these roars north of the river. It's just for a single for Virat Kohli - the first run of the day.

A draw means India and Australia will share the prize money so there is an incentive for India to bat to a draw.

  20. Ind 164-3published at 41 overs

    Kohli 44, Rahane 20

The India fans cheer each time Ajinkya Rahane lays bat on ball. He fails to beat the fielders, however, with Boland starting off with a maiden.

Pat Cummins will open up from the other end.
