  1. Join us again soon...

That is just about your lot from Lord's this evening as the English summer enters its final throes before attention switched to the World Cup in India.

"The match could be more significant for what did not happen, rather than what did..." writes Stephan Shemilt, somewhat cryptically.

You can read his match report here...

A reminder that if you missed anything there are highlights of today's play on BBC Two at 23:25 BST.

You can also catch them on BBC iPlayer at that time, and at your leisure afterwards, here...

There is live coverage of the One-Day Cup final between Leicestershire and Hampshire from Trent Bridge on the BBC Sport website on Saturday morning

We will be at England's three ODIs against Ireland on 20, 23 and 26 September as well.

  2. Pick England's team for New Zealand opener

Left to right: Harry Brook, Jason Roy and Dawid Malan

It is time for you to put yourself in the shoes of the England selectors.

The players heading to India to defend England's World Cup title have contested their final competitive game before the tournament opener against New Zealand on 5 October - bar Jason Roy, who may play against Ireland, and potentially Harry Brook, who gets another opportunity to impress.

    Who would make your side?

We have included the initial 15 players that England picked in their provisional squad, plus Brook and bowler Brydon Carse, who have played in the New Zealand series.

Pick your side and share it on social media using #bbccricket.

  3. 'Well positioned for World Cup'

England captain Jos Buttler: "I think we have got better and better throughout this series in the style of play and got the results as well.

"Dawid Malan has played fantastically well every time he gets an opportunity he makes his mark. It was a fantastic hundred. He read the game very well and put bowlers under pressure.

" I thought it was a good score. Everyone said it was a slow pitch if you hit the right areas. We got off to a good start with the ball and I thought our spinners bowled very well. We know what they can do and what they are capable of. They give us great depth.

"I think we are well positioned ahead of the World Cup. We are not trying to defend anything. We are going to try to win a World Cup like everyone else."

  4. 'We need to improve'

New Zealand captain Tom Latham: "I can't remember getting four injuries in one game before, but when you face those challenges it is important guys step up and we did pretty well with that.

"At the halfway point we knew it was a good surface, maybe a little slow, but we weren't able to build partnerships and got behind the game."

On Tim Southee's fitness: "He is in good spirits. In the coming days he will be assessed further to see how bad it is, but fingers crossed."

On Rachin Ravindra: "He bowled fantastically well. We also saw a little bit of power with the bat at the end which is great."

On losing three matches leading up to World Cup: "When you get to a World Cup it is slightly different. It is who turns up on the day. It has shown us areas we need to improve and it is good to come up against a quality side."

On Kane Williamson's return to fitness: "It's been great to have him here. He has been progressing with his rehab. Fingers crossed he can keep going and be ready for the first game."

  6. 'Dawid Malan was fantastic'

England captain Jos Buttler to BBC's Test Match Special: "Absolutely, we've moved on from the first game, it's been nice to get that progression and get that series win.

Batting display: "It cements our style of play and gets that win. Malan was fantastic and to get that 100, we put that pressure on. Everyone who batted impacted the game and got us up to that score.

David Malan: "I think he's played brilliantly, every time he's played he's been consistent batting No.3. We've asked it of everyone.

Harry Brook's opportunity?: "Every game is a good opportunity. Good players like Harry, you expect them to score runs. Sometimes that doesn't happen but he's a good, good player.

Delaying squad announcement a big help?: "It allows us time to gather information and know where people are at. Know the series is finished, we know how to use that Ireland series.

Having Andrew Flintoff in the coaching staff?: "It's been absolutely amazing, I've loved having him around the dressing room. It's quite surreal to be honest, no ego, you wouldn't think it was Andrew Flintoff. He's just been great to have around. If he wants to be involved in cricket more, we'd love to have him around.

  7. Post update

England have three ODIs against Ireland to come.

Jos Buttler hinted Jason Roy will play a part in that series having not initially been in the squad.

Roy was named in England's provisional squad for the Cricket World Cup, but there are question marks about his fitness after he did not feature at all against New Zealand.

Could that series be a straight shootout between Roy and Harry Brook to be on the plane to India?

  8. 'Roy should go to World Cup'

    James Anderson

England bowler on BBC Test Match Special

I saw Jason Roy on the field today, he was taking high catches and running around with the rugby ball, he looks pretty pain free. For me, he goes to the World Cup. He's been in decent nick when he has played. Brook wasn't in the initial squad and he hasn't done anything to replace him. If Roy's fit, he definitely goes.

  9. 'You need to be a freak or consistent'

England player of the match, and player of the series, Dawid Malan: "It was good fun, especially at the home of cricket. It's good to get some runs on the board before the World Cup as well. I got away with a few early on, and found it hard to score, but when Jos [Buttler] came in we got going and in the end managed to get a score on the board.

"Trying to break into this England white ball team you have to either be a freak or consistent. I've tried to be as consistent as I can be with the bat. I was gutted in the last game to get out when I looked to get a big score. So it was fantastic to back it up and contribute to a win.

"Now I'm extremely excited to go the World Cup. it's a dream come true - if selected. It's a dream to play for England, let alone to be potentially going to a World Cup."

  10. Post update

    Jeremy Coney

Former New Zealand captain on BBC Test Match Special

New Zealand have international players and experienced players. You need to be better than that at international level. New Zealand's order basically finishes at seven, five down and you're into the bowlers who don't use the bat. If you play the bowlers, they have to be very good bowlers. Southee would be a big loss for New Zealand, but his pace his come down so much that's not much different between his pace off and pace on deliveries.

  11. Post update

    James Anderson

England bowler on BBC Test Match Special

I think if you put Kane Williamson into New Zealand's top five, it can free up a Devon Conway or someone like that and make them a better batting side as a result.

  12. Post update

We'll have the presentation ceremony shortly where we'll find out who is the player of the match, and England's player of the series.

Jos Buttler will also give his thoughts as well.

Stick around for a little while longer.

  13. Post update

    James Anderson

England bowler on BBC Test Match Special

It's been a fantastic performance for England, Malan seemed to be batting on a different pitch to everyone else.

  14. Post update

    Simon Mann

    BBC Test Match Special commentator

England have come back from that heavy defeat in Cardiff last Friday, three thrashings.

  15. England win by 100 runs

Tim Southee will not come out to bat so that wicket gives England a comfortable victory.

  16. WICKET

    Ravindra b Curran 61 (NZ 211-9)

A clever piece of bowling from Sam Curran who fires in a yorker and Rachin Ravindra gets himself into a bit of tangle as he thinks about going big, but changes his mind.

  17. Post update

Rachin Ravindra has certainly looked to take on the bowling after a quiet start.

  18. Post update

    Simon Mann

    BBC Test Match Special commentator

Carse is serving them up and Ravindra is smacking them everywhere!

  19. NZ 211-8

An expense over for Brydon Carse which goes for 21 as Rachin Ravindra takes a shine to him, biffing two more fours.

Some late entertainment for those who have stayed at Lord's to see this to a finish.

  20. Post update

    Simon Mann

    BBC Test Match Special commentator

Ravindra has clubbed that for six as well. He's got licence, but you still have to hit them as well.
