  2. NZ 81-3published at 16 overs

Another pacey over from Brydon Carse as he pushes 90mph.

Just the five runs off it.

  3. Not outpublished at 15.2 overs

Henry Nicholls was home by distance. It was still some sharp fielding by Jonny Bairstow though, keeping the batters on their toes.

  4. Umpire reviewpublished at 15.2 overs

Jonny Bairstow makes a brilliant diving stop at mid-wicket before throwing in a direct hit on the bounce.

Henry Nicholls looked to be comfortably home but the umpires will take a second look, just in case.

Just the one six from New Zealand so far this innings.

    And here it is.

Moeen Ali has left an almighty divot in the Lord's outfield as he claws the ball back from near the rope. It is the sort of mess I leave when I try to play golf.

Fortunately Moeen has not suffered any injury as he leaves David Willey to repair the damage.

That was a beauty of a delivery from Brydon Carse, but the giveaway is the bowler carrying on with their follow through. Jos Buttler threw it up in the air, but that was more just theatrics.

  8. NZ 65-3published at 14 overs

Another brilliant delivery from Brydon Carse as he gets the ball to leap up at left-hander Tom Latham and flash past his outside edge.

Jos Buttler throws the ball up in the air in celebration as if Latham had got a nick on it, but Carse's lack of celebration says it all.

Brydon Carse was right on the money first up, taking the wicket of Daryl Mitchell with just his third delivery of the match.

  10. 6 runs

    NZ 62-3published at 13 overs

Henry Nicholls takes on a short ball from Sam Curran and pulls it over deep backward square for six.

Nicholls didn't quite time it but had enough raw power to clear the rope.

  11. Postpublished at 17:54 British Summer Time 15 September 2023

Another change of bowling for England as Sam Curran is thrown the ball.

    James Anderson
England bowler on BBC Test Match Special

Brydon Carse is someone that everyone has been impressed with. He can swing the red ball, too. He was out in Australia before the last Ashes and was impressive in the nets. He's had injury problems, and I'm certain if they hadn't have happened he'd have had a good chance of staying on that tour.

  13. NZ 53-3published at 12 overs

This already feels ominous for New Zealand, who have injury concerns over Tim Southee and Ben Lister so it remains to be seen if they will bat. If they don't then they are effectively 53-5.

Brydon Carse has hit his straps straight away. There's maybe a touch of movement and it's a really good bit of bowling. His chest is still pumped out from hitting that six at the end of the innings. It's a blow for New Zealand. You think if they are to get anywhere near the total they needed Daryl Mitchell to produce a knock similar to the one at Cardiff.

  15. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 11.3 overs

    Mitchell b Carse 4 (NZ 52-3)

And Brydon Carse strikes in his first over!

It's the key wicket of Daryl Mitchell too. Carse is edging close to 89mph down the slope, drawing Mitchell forward into the drive, but the ball goes through the gate and cannons into the stumps.

Change of bowling for England as Brydon Carse comes into the attack.

Team for World Cup: I've got to admit I'm pretty nervous about this World Cup and think England may struggle to get out of the group. While there have been some great individual performances from Stokes and Malan; our back up batting hasn't fired and our back up bowling looks a weak link. World Cup XI: Bairstow, Malan, Root, Stokes, Buttler, Livingstone, Curran, Moeen, Woakes, Rashid, Wood.

David Willey is just trying to get the seam wobble as it goes down the slope, then get one to come back in. It's really nice bowling. He's is getting some nice movement and both he and Reece Topley have done a nice job so far.

  19. NZ 51-2published at 11 overs

That's another brilliant delivery from David Willey as he beats the outside edge of Daryl Mitchell's bat outside his off stump.

Mitchell nods in appreciation. He knows he was beaten all ends up there.

Here is the second wicket to fall. Great ball, great catch. Job done.
