Sri Lanka have got to look at the positives, and that because they got such a good start, they can afford to take their time to consolidate after this mini collapse.

Sri Lanka are still in a good position to get themselves to 300 but Australia are squeezing well.

  3. SL 169-4published at 31 overs

Three runs for Sri Lanka from the returning Starc, two off the bat with the other a wide down the leg side.

We're starting to see the shadows from the floodlights - sunset isn't for another hour in Lucknow, but it's already looking pretty gloomy behind the stands.

For all his struggles, Adam Zampa has now dismissed the two centurions from Sri Lanka's previous game.

  5. SL 166-4published at 30 overs

Four more dot balls for a wicket maiden for Zampa.

Sri Lankan reach 166-4 at 30 overs - cricketing lore says you should look to roughly double your total from here.

That's achievable, they haven't been scoring at an almighty rate, but they'd have been a lot more confident of doing so four overs ago when they were 157-1.

New batters De Silva and Asalanka are both on zero and will have to rebuild.

  6. SL 166-4published at 29.2 overs

De Silva pushes the ball into mid-wicket, no hat-trick for the Australian leg-spinner.

    Zampa gets his second!

The first one was more to do with good fielding, but this was purely good bowling.

That's gone! Zampa has his second and he's on a hat-trick!

The third umpires spends a long time trying to ascertain whether the ball has taken an edge, finally ascertaining there wasn't one.

Then there's the question of whether the ball is heading down leg. Ball tracking says... umpire's call, and the Australian side roar with delight.

In comes Dhananjaya de Silva to face the hat-trick delivery.

    Is there an edge?

Does Zampa have another? Zampa thinks he has Samarawickrama trapped in front of the wicket.

Joel Wilson's finger goes up, the batter sends it upstairs.

Australia are just starting to ramp up the pressure.

  12. SL 166-3published at 29 overs

A couple of half-hearted appeals from this Cummins over. Samarawickrama runs through a quick single from the opening delivery. Maxwell follows him and has a direct hit - the umpires take a look but the batter is well in.

New batter Charith Asalanka then plays out five dot balls - he attempts to turn a ball round his legs which is taken by a diving Josh Inglis. It's not given as a wide so it must have hit something, but only Cummins is vaguely interested.

It's important for Australia to keep chipping away with wickets in the middle overs.

They don't want to be bowling at two set batters in the last 10 overs. They've got a huge opportunity now to halt Sri Lanka and keep them to less than 300.

Warner looks like he is limping a bit, with his knee getting stuck in the ground, but it's another brilliant catch.

That is a wicket that will give Adam Zampa some much-needed confidence.

    Mendis c Warner b Zampa 9 (SL 165-3)

Zampa has a wicket! Maybe his fortunes are changing?

Mendis goes to slog-sweep the Australia leggie through mid-wicket, but the ball takes the top edge. David Warner does yet more great work in the outfield, running a great distance while keeping his eye on the ball, adjusting his line and then taking a great sprawling catch on the dive.

The 36-year-old leaves a trail of turf in his wake as his knee catches on the ground when he lands. The physios roll on, but Warner appears to be OK to continue.

Beautifully driven by Samarawickrama. If Glenn Maxwell can't get there, not many fielders can.

This is the best time to get Zampa back in the game. There are two fairly new batters at the crease and when he hasn't bowled particularly well, it can help get him a couple of tight overs in and boost his confidence.

  18. SL 164-2published at 27.3 overs

The beleaguered Adam Zampa returns for Australia. Will his fortunes be any better this time round?

Samarawickrama reels off a classy drive, splitting the cover field. Glenn Maxwell hurries after the ball round the boundary rope - he dips his chest like a finishing sprinter but doesn't commit to the full dive, the ball rippling over the foam padding.

  19. SL 158-2published at 27 overs

Sadeera Samarawickrama enters the fray, like his batting partner he was a centurion in a losing cause against Pakistan a week or so ago.

Two dots to begin with, before he hurries through a miscued shot past the bowler. Two lanky Australians in wide-brimmed hats descend on the ball from mid-on and mid-off.

We have been calling for Australia to just keep things simple and make sure they keep attacking the stumps.

And Pat Cummins proves that you can get the reward for that in the middle overs.

That could be the catalyst that Australia need for a fightback.
