Middle-order and lower-order batters like it when the top order get out early because it gives them time to set out their stall. Generally batting at six or seven is a tough spot. They get to play their natural game a little better because they've got more time to be measured and work out what they need to do.

  2. Ned 113-6published at 28 overs

Logan van Beek is the new batter as Keshav Maharaj bowls a beauty that just beats the outside edge.

Two balls later a leading edges flies into the off side but lands safely.

A nervy start from Van Beek. The pressure will be on Scott Edwards now as the set batter.

The problem with that is it was given out on the field so was there anything conclusive to overturn it? Probably not.

I wouldn't mind seeing that to be honest. The first squiggle is definitely bat on ground, but then there seems to be a second squiggle.

That is a good decision on the field.

Gone! There's three reds with Hawk-Eye showing the ball going on to smack into leg stump.

Teja Nidamanuru's spritely innings is over.

Could it be pitching outside leg stump? I suspect it may be umpire's call.

There is a lot of lines going on. Has he hit it? Is that bat on the ground?

It was like Mitchell Starc from Marco Jansen.

  9. Netherlands reviewpublished at 26.6 overs

A full in-swinging delivery from Marco Jansen smacks into Teja Nidamanuru's back leg.

The umpire raises his finger but Nidamanurun instantly reviews.

  10. Postpublished at 13:33 British Summer Time 17 October 2023

It may not prove too costly given South Africa are still on top, but I doubt Marco Jansen will be very happy with himself here.

  11. Ned 105-5published at 26 overs

Scott Edwards is on the sweep again but Kagiso Rabada is now the man station on the fine leg boundary and he cuts the ball off to prevent the four and Netherlands can run two.

That is going to be one of those that leaves a dark blue bruise tomorrow morning and probably for a few days.

Just a single from Marco Jansen's latest over.

It ends painfully for Teja Nidamanuru as he misses a pull shot and the ball smacks right into his stomach.

    That will hurt.

Marco Jansen, who dropped that clanger a few moments ago, has the chance to make amends as he returns to the attack.

He is 1-13 from his five overs so far.

You almost have to add a premium onto the score you want to set South Africa because of how much power their batting line-up has.

  16. Ned 102-5published at 24 overs

Scott Edwards plays another powerful sweep-shot that beats the man on the boundary to bring up the Netherlands' 100.

Again Gerald Coetzee is the man on the rope, with his full length dive not enough to stop the ball from hitting the rope.

It is a good short ball, but it would have been an extremely soft dismissal.

That is a let-off. It was pretty much a carbon copy of what we saw earlier when he took the catch.

  20. dropped catch

Nidamanuru dropped on 14published at 22.5 overs

Marco Jansen has dropped a dolly!

It is an almost identical delivery and shot that led to Sybrand Engelbrecht's dismissal, but this time Marco Jansen has to take a step forward and the ball slips through his hands, hits his chest and falls to the floor.
