If I was out there as a batter I would be breaking it down into five-over spells and be looking to get 20 off them. They'll want to persevere wickets until the 35th over now and then try and push hard to get to around 200.

The Netherlands need a rebuild here. I don't know what to make of the wicket - it has looked placid at times and difficult at other times. South Africa have bowled very, very well though.

Scott Edwards survives, the ball straightened but not enough, with Hawk-Eye showing the ball going on to miss leg stump.

At best that ball should be clipping so we should stay with the umpire's decision.

  5. South Africa reviewpublished at 21.5 overs

Keshav Maharaj is appealing for lbw after clattering into Scott Edwards' pads.

Umpire Michael Gough says no but South Africa send it upstairs.

Time for some spin as Keshav Maharaj is thrown the ball for the first time this match.

It is important to start the tournament well. We've seen with India, South Africa and New Zealand that it is so important to win your first game because it sets the tone for the tournament.

  8. Ned 83-5published at 21 overs

Skipper Scott Edwards is the new batter and gets off the mark with a single from his third ball.

Seeing out their 43 overs looks to be the immediate challenge for Netherlands now.

It was a wonderful, well-timed shot but he just couldn't control it. There was only one fielder on the boundary but he's just found him. He didn't move an inch.

You've got to give it to the bowler. It was a perfect delivery.

    Engelbrecht c Jansen b Ngidi 19 (Ned 82-5)

Hit straight to deep fine leg!

It is a short ball from Lungi Ngidi and a well-timed pull shot from Sybrand Engelbrecht, but it flew straight to Marco Jansen on the rope, who did not have to move.

That is a glorious shot. He picked the length early and played it with great authority and balance.

  12. Ned 81-4published at 20 overs

Gerald Coetzee bowls a beauty that leaps up off a length and flashes past Teja Nidamanuru's outside edge.

The next delivery is back of a length and Nidamanuru is on it in a flash, crunching the ball through mid-wicket for four.

Dharamsala is already one of the most picturesque venues in world cricket but we are being treated to a glorious sunset that makes it look even more spectacular.

The Netherlands will want to get somewhere around 220 to 230 but that feels a long way off at the moment.

  14. Ned 76-4published at 19 overs

Kagiso Rabada is proving miserly as ever, even making a fine stop with his boot to deny what could have been a boundary for Sybrand Engelbrecht, who is 19 from 34 balls.

Not the cleanest of strikes, but Sybrand Engelbrecht got enough on it to reach the rope.

  16. Ned 72-4published at 18 overs

Sybrand Engelbrecht has settled in nicely as he looks to put pressure back on the bowlers by working the ball around the square.

It feels like the Netherlands' hopes of reaching a competitive total rest on his shoulders at the moment.

Here is the latest wicket to fall as Gerald Coetzee's delivery is chopped on to his stumps by Colin Ackermann.

  18. Ned 68-4published at 17 overs

Sybrand Engelbrecht is showing some intent here, though he doesn't actually add to his score as a bouncer flies over the wicketkeeper's head for four wides, before a flick off the pads disappears fine for four byes.

A single off the last ball completes another decent over for Netherlands,

What I am intrigued about is when South Africa bring their spinner on. Keshav Maharaj is an excellent bowler and has a good record against the Netherlands. That call will be interesting.

  20. Ned 58-4published at 16 overs

Gerald Coetzee opts against another bouncer and goes for a length delivery that Sybrand Engelbrecht pushes for a single.

Despite losing a wicket that was one of the more productive overs for the Netherlands in terms of runs.
