It was a wonderful delivery from Marco Jansen. Perfect line and length, just leaving the batter slightly. He was a bit expensive in the last match but is bowling brilliantly here.

That's a blow to the Netherlands as Max O'Dowd was batting nicely.

    O'Dowd c de Kock b Jansen 18 (Ned 24-2)

Yep, gone. There's a little snick.

Max O'Dowd has played some lovely shots but he's on his way back.

Such a shame too. I hadn't even managed to mention his wonderful hair.

It was such a good appeal from South Africa, which is always a sign they have all heard something together.

Is that an edge? Quinton de Kock flings the ball in the air behind the stumps.

Umpire Michael Gough says no, but South Africa send it upstairs.

Max O'Dowd could be in trouble.

  6. Ned 24-1published at 7 overs

New batter Colin Ackermann gets a single straight away, angling the ball to third.

Vikram Singh plays a shotImage source, Getty Images

That was a nothing shot from Singh, he was cramped for room and in no real position to play it.

Wonderful delivery from Rabada, though. He is a champion bowler and will be such a key player for South Africa at this World Cup.

  8. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 6.1 overs

    Singh c Klaasen b Rabada 2 (Ned 22-1)

Vikram Singh succumbs to the pressure!

He falls to Kagiso Rabada's opening delivery while attempting a pull that wasn't there. The ball comes off the top edge and spirals into the sky and Klaasen takes a decent catch, having run back from slip.

Vikram Singh denies Marco Jansen successive maidens, pushing his final delivery for a single to square leg.

The Netherlands opener has two runs from 15 deliveries.

  10. Ned 21-0published at 5 overs

More runs for O'Dowd through backward point, easing Ngidi for four.

The Netherlands opener moves to 17, already his highest score of the tournament.

It's a good shot and O'Dowd drives it for four. Good flow from the bat, it's probably not a great delivery from Ngidi.

  13. Ned 16-0published at 3 overs

    Consecutive fours for O'Dowd!

Ngidi offers too much width and the Netherlands opener twice lashes him through the covers, first with a big heave and then a classic drive that scuds along the ground.

The South African seamer looks disconsolate and examines his run-up.

Wide of the off stump from Jansen. That will do the Netherlands the world of good, it races across to the boundary.

  15. Ned 6-0published at 2 overs

Marco Jansen gifts the Netherlands their first runs with successive wides at the start of his over.

Max O'Dowd then adds the first score off the bat, cutting neatly through backward point for four.

South Africa's left-armer than jags one past O'Dowd's outside edge.

There's an appeal and Ngidi was convinced. I'll be honest, I thought it sounded woody. But Temba Bavuma isn't interested.

A maiden to start from Ngidi.

The South African seamer is appealing after the ball loops back to him. Replays suggest that the ball came off Singh's thigh pad - surprising it came back that far, maybe he has a particularly springy one.

Temba Bavuma shakes his head and the DRS counter ticks past zero. Good call from the South African captain.

  18. Ned 0-0published at 0.1 overs

Ngidi rumbles in, round the wicket and two slips. Singh defends.

A note on the playing conditions - the opening powerplay will last nine overs. Three bowlers will be able to bowl nine overs, while the rest will be able to send down a maximum of eight.

The cloud has dissipated and we have sight of the mountains that tower behind the stands. Outfield concerns aside, it really is one of the great grounds in world cricket.

South Africa's Lungi Ngidi is set to open the bowling to Vikram Singh, with Max O'Dowd at the non-striker's end.

We're finally set to get going.

It's time for the star of the show - not one of the players, but the ball carrying lorry.

It trundles out onto the outfield alongside the teams. It's time for the national anthems.
