  1. SA 165-3published at 26 overs

Hendricks was not far off making what would have been an excellent century but Rashid's goods once again stops a settled batter on a big score.

As Aggers says, Klaasen and Markram together, this could go anywhere!

    Your move, Gus Atkinson.

Heinrich Klaasen comes in next, and with him and Aiden Markram at the crease... well, strap yourselves in!

Well played, Reeza Hendricks. He really picked up the pace after a slow start and has set his side a lovely platform.

But it's Adil Rashid who gets the job done again for England. It does look like the wicket is offering some spin.

    Hendricks b Rashid 85 (SA 164-3)

    Breakthrough!

It is Adil Rashid once again, who gets a bit of fortune with this delivery, but he and England will not mind that one bit.

Hendricks looked to get the shot away, but almost seemed to half pull out of it, chopping onto his own stumps.

Not too much of a reprieve for England, with Heinrich Klaasen next in, but Hendricks, who was in superb touch, is out.

Hendricks sits on 85 and here is how he dispatched Root for two sixes in the space of three balls.

  6. SA 163-2published at 25 overs

Really good stuff from Atkinson on his first over back in the attack.

Just two singles come from it. The first was a pull shot crunched by Hendricks, but one which was stopped with relative ease by substitute Liam Livingstone.

South Africa have 163 on the board at the halfway stage.

The only chink in the South Africans' armour is to take quick wickets and get their middle order exposed early.

The only team to exploit that so far has been the Netherlands.

  8. SA 161-2published at 24 overs

Five runs come from Adil Rashid's latest over, but they are all just singles, with Hendricks and Markram just nursing the ball around.

After Root's expensive over, it is time for some express pace in the form of Gus Atkinson.

Here is how Adil Rashid made the breakthrough, getting England's second wicket of the day.

  10. SA 156-2published at 23 overs

Root has largely been consistent today, with most of his runs conceded coming via singles, but Hendricks looks to have his number, two destructive sixes and 16 runs from the over.

Adil Rashid will want to keep this next over much quieter...

    My word.

It is quite typical. Temba Bavuma isn't well, a big blow for South Africa, but then Reeza Hendricks comes straight in to play the innings of his life.

  12. 6 runs

    SA 155-2published at 22.4 overs

Hendricks goes big again and this is becoming a very expensive over from Root, 15 coming off these four balls so far.

Just when you thought Hendricks had hit a superb shot, he just betters it. Root's tactic of going shorter just fails to pay off.

  13. 6 runs

    SA 147-2published at 22.2 overs

    Crunch!

It is going to take some doing to stop Hendricks at this rate, he has smashed that ball all the way over long off and over the hoardings for six.

  14. SA 140-2published at 22 overs

Two dot balls end that over from Rashid, who goes for six in total.

England are sticking with spin in the form of Joe Root at the other end.

It took Reeza Hendricks 14 balls to get off the mark but he has proven that if you give yourself some time, it is the sort of wicket where runs can flow very freely.

This is just a taste of what Hendricks has in his locker...

  17. SA 140-2published at 21.4 overs

Hendricks is really starting to look dangerous here. A big swipe at that delivery from Rashid and it flies through the covers for four.

It has been largely tidy from Rashid this over so far, but that ball was punished.

England really needed that wicket and they need a couple of more wickets really.

  19. SA 134-2published at 21 overs

A quick over there from Joe Root and South Africa score eight runs from it, two singles are worked either side of a gently guided boundary from Markram.

Adil Rashid will look to build on the wicket he took in his previous over.

    Thanks, Timothy.

The wicket of Rassie van der Dussen feels big and England really need to kick on from here and limit how quickly Hendricks can form a partnership with Aiden Markram.

The experienced Rashid steps up, as he did with the ball against Afghanistan, albeit with little help from his bowling colleagues.
