That's not great news. Reece Topley has been England's most effective seam bowler in the tournament thus far.
Mark Wood is touching 90mph in the simmering heat of the Wankhede but his fourth ball is a fraction full and drilled straight down the ground by Rassie van der Dussen.
The South Africa batter uses the pace to ping it all along the carpet.

Reece Topley’s injury is the index finger on his left hand. We’re told it’s not a cut, which to me suggests something more serious.
We’ll have more detail as we get it.
Reeza Hendricks is 42 not out off 44 balls. Rassie van der Dussen is 43 off the same number of deliveries.
Both of these two will be eyeing half-centuries.
Mark Wood to continue after drinks.

England’s physio has just come jogging down the steps from the dressing room again. He’s done more steps than some of the fielders.
Time for Jos Buttler and his players to regroup and quench their thirsts in the stifling heat of Mumbai.

Adam: The balance of this England side is just all wrong.
Adrian: This is going to get embarrassing very quickly for England.
Paul: Not sure about England's line-up today. I think selection has been confused since the inclusion of Brook and Stokes. This is not a tight team at the moment.
Joe Root is flicked fine by Rassie van der Dussen for four.
David Willey took a bit of tap from Reeza Hendricks earlier on.
After that early wicket it's not exactly going England's way at the moment.

It's not the sort of opportunity you can run into and collect for Harry Brook. Almost, almost getting a catch out in the deep. He did stop that well, it was a horrible bounce and he put himself on the line there.
Reeza Hendricks almost plonks Mark Wood into the hands of Harry Brook, who is down patrolling the boundary at square leg.
Brook gets himself into a bit of a tangle and meets the ball on the half volley. Was that a chance missed by the England batter?
The crowd is slowly filling up at the Wankhede Stadium. It's far from full, though, and it's been a similar story throughout the tournament.
Over in France the rugby World Cup has been playing out in front of grounds with healthy attendances.
My colleague Matthew Henry has done some digging out in India and attempted to get the root of the issue.
You can read more about that here...
Joe Root into the attack. A run a ball off the over from Rassie van der Dussen and Reeza Hendricks.

We haven't heard a Topley update yet, he went off with a damaged finger and that is a worry for England. It could be six overs England need to find.
David Willey is going off the field now as well. Joe Root is going to bowl which suggests either the Topley news isn't good, or they just want a change of pace.
I don't want to put the idea out there that there is a bug going around with all the comings and goings on and off the field.

Not sure I'd ever see the day when I'm more excited by the style of England's Test team than our white-ball teams. Where has the spark gone!

Reeza Hendricks, only playing today because South Africa skipper Temba Bavuma is under the weather, has immediately taken a shine to the pace of Mark Wood.
Wood's fourth ball is short and Hendricks pulls him emphatically through mid-wicket for four.
This has turned into a very handy platform for South Africa.

This is a dangerous period of play for England.
Always thought Reece Topley has the haircut of an amateur wrestler you'd find in a special night put on at the local town hall.
He's a very nice bloke by all accounts. When he was at Essex he gave his county cap to a pal of mine, Vladimir, who is the secretary of the Serbian Cricket Federation.
Anyway, Mark Wood into the attack for England. Can he shake things up?

Curlitoe: Reece Topley has the hairstyle I can only dream of pulling off without looking like a total fool. Of course he has the skills with the ball too. Majestic cricketer. Hope he's alright and can get back in today.
Not sure you'd class either David Willey or Gus Atkinson as dibbly dobblers, in all honesty.
Worryingly, Atkinson's body language does not exactly exude confidence at the moment but he manages to get through the over with just a single from it.
His third ball to Reeza Hendricks is a bumper which the South Africa batter sways out the way of. Nice to see a bit of aggression.

Our bowlers just look very non-threatening, and in my opinion we have no chance of winning this World Cup with 80mph dobblers.

A poor ball that, and with fine leg up, that is a gift from Willey. It was destined for four runs and that is not a good ball.
