It feels like one of those catches you have to take. Jonny Bairstow's feet were constantly readjusting. It wasn't an easy one, it was swirling and when you are under ones like that, you end up questioning what you are doing.
Van der Dussen c Bairstow b Rashid 60 (SA 125-2)
Oh how England needed that.
Rassie van der Dussen skies a top edge as he miscues a slog sweep off Adil Rashid.
Jonny Bairstow has to wait an age but those big Yorkshire paws of his hold the catch comfortably.
An absolute must for anyone visiting Mumbai, Matthew. There's something incredibly magical about the Oval Maidan.
I was fortunate enough to have a net there on a tour with the Free Foresters last year. Quite possibly the highlight of the entire trip.
Anyway, Adil Rashid continues for England.

Time for some travel journalism with England in trouble…
I had a lovely wander to the Oval Maidan yesterday. It’s a public park with games of cricket going on all over the place.

I won't make many friends by saying this, but this tournament is so flat. England are playing average cricket and India in India look unbeatable. It seems we're just going through the motions for their inevitable crowning. The fact the Rugby World Cup has been an absolute belter is also a distraction.

Reece Topley is in the England dressing room wandering around with his finger protruding out. As if he is about to jab someone in the ribs.
Joe Root continues as England. Reeza Hendricks and Rassie van der Dussen continue to knock the ball around for singles. A run a ball off that over.

I really like this South Africa side. They feel different. They may not have as much skill as the last team, but there feels like there is less of a burden on them from previous tournaments. I really like Temba Bavuma as a leader too.
No is the answer. Adil Rashid drags it down again and this Reeza Hendricks cashes in, heaving it to the boundary on the leg side for another four.
England look bereft of ideas at the moment.

John: Why are England choosing to bowl when they win the toss? Wasn’t Afghanistan a clear lesson?
Jos Buttler does, indeed, turn to Adil Rashid.
However, the England leggie is just a little short and Rassie van der Dussen has enough time to go back and heave him square for four.
Not the ideal start. Can Nelson get England a wicket here?

Maybe it is time to get Adil Rashid on and something different. In the middle overs, you don't want this partnership to settle down.
This partnership is worth 103 runs now.
England are labouring, somewhat. South Africa have plenty of hitting to come.

England's bowling looking worryingly toothless. Could be very messy when Rohit and Kohli come to town.

It's been a slow-ish start for South Africa, Quinton de Kock went out early and it was a slow-ish start, but England's lengths have changed and there's been quite a few good shots from Van der Dussen and Hendricks.
Reeza Hendricks follows suit a couple of balls later as he too works Joe Root into the leg side for a single.

Van der Dussen is just a class act, he is so good to watch.
Rassie van der Dussen flicks the first ball of Joe Root's over into the leg side. He has 50.

South Africa are on course for about 300 which feels like it would be short. The average winning first innings score so far has been closer to around 350.

It's a lovely pace to bat on, good pace, good bounce and that is exactly what Reeza Hendricks did. He just guided that for six.
