  1. SA 58-1published at 9.3 overs

Back-to-back boundaries for Reeza Hendricks, who is seeking to impose himself on the England bowlers.

A freebie from David Willey as he slips on to pads of Reeza Hendricks, who flicks it effortlessly for four through fine leg.

Next ball Hendricks oozes class as he crisply drives the England left-armer through the covers.

Willey has a hang dog expression as he walks back to his mark.

All too easy for the Proteas at the moment, albeit with the caveat that this is a good pitch for batting.

It is only Gus Atkinson's sixth List A game.

  3. SA 49-1published at 9 overs

Reeza Hendricks looks in fine fettle after a slow-ish start to his innings.

This time Gus Atkinson is a fraction short and Hendricks picks up the length early and pulls it through mid-wicket for four.

Not the start Atkinson will have envisaged. England wilting a little bit here in the Mumbai heat.

  4. SA 43-1published at 8.2 overs

Gus Atkinson serves up a generous half volley with his second ball and Reeza Hendricks drives him, on the up, straight down the ground for four. Clinical.

Jos Buttler mops his brow by the stumps. He has a worried expression etched on his face.

This is a typical innings from Van der Dussen. He's given himself to time to get going, but once he is in, you will see him start to play those big shots.

England have felt the force of Van der Dussen before and he is just starting to look dangerous.

  7. SA 39-1published at 8 overs

David Willey flagging a little as he bowls a little too short to Rassie van der Dussen and is twice pulled behind square for four.

You can't bowl there to RVDD.

Gus Atkinson poised to get his first bowl of the World Cup.

I was disappointed to see Quinton de Kock get out so early. If Van der Dussen and Hendricks can set this up, Klaasen and Miller have the platform to come in later on and hit the sixes they have been working on.

Topley doesn't look comfortable. It looks like the kind of surface where if you give yourself time to get used to the bounce, you can put on a good score here.

  10. SA 29-1published at 7 overs

Joe Root quickly loosens up and bowls the final ball of Reece Topley's over which Rassie van der Dussen works into the leg side for a single.

Reece Topley, meanwhile, is furious as he climbs the steps to the dressing room. He frustratingly kicks something with a scowl on his face.

Topley, of course, has a history of injury problems.

Reece Topley has gone off the field. Joe Root will have to complete the over. A setback for England.

  12. SA 28-1published at 6.5 overs

Reece Topley is full on the pads of Rassie van Dussen and the South Africa batter whips him to the boundary for consecutive boundaries.

Topley's clearly not happy with whatever issue he has with his finger and walks off the pitch for further treatment.

  13. ouch!

    SA 24-1published at 6.4 overs

Reece Topley is struck on the finger of his left hand as he attempts to stop a return hit from Rassie van der Dussen off his third ball.

Clearly still feeling the effects of it for his next ball or not only he drops it a little short to the South Africa batter who punches it through the covers for four.

Topley decides to get some treatment from a member of the England medical team with two balls left in the over.

    Dhoni seat

The last time the 50-over World Cup was at this famous ground was the 2011 final.

That day MS Dhoni banged the winning runs into the stands as India beat Sri Lanka to win the title.

12 years on and they’ve marked the spot where Dhoni’s six landed with two special seats in the stand.

  15. SA 18-1published at 6 overs

David Willey persists with a full-ish length and Rassie van der Dussen taps a risky single off his final ball to Gus Atkinson at mid-on.

Atkinson, on his World Cup debut, has a shy at the stumps but misses. That would have been worth a look if it had been a direct hit.

    0.1. Here's how it started...

  18. SA 17-1published at 5 overs

Reece Topley applauds the efforts of fellow quick bowler Mark Wood after he prevents a boundary with a diving effort.

Topley's penultimate delivery swings into the pads of Reeza Hendricks and there's another hint of an appeal, but England quickly realise the South Africa batter got something on that.

Hendricks keeps the strike with a streaky inside edge off Topley's final delivery of the over.

England's bowlers are still causing problems.

Hope I don't put the mockers on him, but given his hard luck at being left out of the squad at the last minute four years ago, great to see David Willey involved in a big time World Cup match. Took his exclusion in 2019 with exceptional grace and it's great to see him get his reward. A true team player.
