Has concussion substitute Usama Mir struck in his first over?!
Rassie van der Dussen has been hit high on the back pad. It's been given out on the field.
He's reviewed it. Could be close...
Confirmation from the Pakistan Cricket Board on X, formerly Twitter, of their use of a concussion substitute as Usama Mir is brought into the attack.
"Pakistan have taken a concussion substitute for Shadab Khan in the ongoing match against South Africa. Usama Mir will replace Shadab.
"Shadab hit his head while fielding. He briefly took the field, but after a thorough assessment, the Pakistan team medical panel decided to replace him. The substitute request was approved by the match referee."
As a result of this, Mir will be allowed to bowl.
Target 271
South Africa content to knock spinner Mohammad Nawaz into the gaps as they farm the strike.
Aiden Markram and Rassie van der Dussen have put on 50 for the third wicket.

The difference for me between that and the Bairstow one, is the length of time that Rizwan had the ball in his hands for. He had the ball in his gloves for a few seconds, put his head down, and then threw the ball.
Alex Carey threw the ball instantaneously. It is close enough to draw parallels but as we say, he wasn't going for a run out in the end. Rizwan was smiling with Markram afterwards.

On that roll at the stumps from Rizwan, you could say the ball was dead because he had the ball in his hands for a long time. But it doesn't really matter anyway because he wasn't appealing for it.
Hang on, have we got Carey vs Bairstow Part II here...?!
Well, not exactly.
Aiden Markram leaves his ground, taps the toe off his foot into the ground to indicate, well, something.
Mohammad Rizwan under arms the ball at the stumps and the bails light up after a direct hit.
Unlike Carey during the Ashes Test at Lord's Rizwan has a huge grin on his face as he holds his arms out.
Was it dead? Well, Rizwan decides not to appeal.
Now then, here's that flamboyant uppercut from Aiden Markram.

Rassie van der Dussen hasn't quite found his timing yet.
Haris Rauf is cranking up the speed-o-meter.
The penultimate delivery of his over is too quick for Rassie van der Dussen who is fortunate not to snick a wild pull into the leg side.
VDD plays with a straight bat to Rauf's next ball beats and is beaten.
South Africa probably have the upper hand at the moment. Here's the two wickets to fall so far.
It's a warm evening in Chennai. Time for a drink.

It wasn't even that short but Markram gets on to the back foot so quickly to free his arms. He is a very good player of spin.
Babar Azam is chewing gum, waving his arms frantically like a policeman directing traffic, as he moves fielders into exactly the right position.
Mohammad Nawaz drops his fourth ball a fraction short, and Aiden Markram anticipates it and punishes him.
The South Africa batter rocks back deep into the crease and gets plenty of bat speed behind his pull shot to launch it over the boundary for six.

South Africa are going hard. But it can shift quickly, we saw it stall when De Kock got out and then Bavuma.
Haris Rauf is really steaming in but Aiden Markram is happy to take it on. It's a fascinating battle.

Wow! That was remarkable. It's very quick from Haris Rauf but Markram has played it with both feet off the ground and just helped it on its way.
Haris Rauf sneers at Aiden Markram after an outrageous shot to his second delivery
The South Acrica batter leaps in the air to a ball that climbs into him from the Pakistan quick bowler and upper cuts it over the fielder at third for six.
Wowzers.

There is a bit of risk involved in the aggressive way that Aiden Markram is playing, but if it comes off, it will be very exciting.
A straight pull from Aiden Markram.
Not quite where he intended it, but no less effective as Mohammad Wasim sees his fourth ball disappear over the head of mid-on for four.
Markram is a little more orthodox off the final ball of the over to pick up another, unfurling a velvety square drive.

There is some doubt around South Africa when they are chasing. They would like to get a good chase under their belts in the group stage if they make it through.
