They are still going to get a very, very good score but it was noticeable how much the tempo changed.

Australia really slowed down when Smith and Labuschagne came in. They were on target for way more than 400.
Josh Inglis and Glenn Maxwell aren't the reserved types and there's signs of returns to the impetus of the top of the innings.
Maxwell's pull is cut off at the mid-wicket boundary, but he replays the shot and picks up four second time around. Inglis then cleaves Boult's short ball through square leg for another boundary.

The pitch has got slower and it is definitely favouring the spinners with the ball a bit more scuffed up and allowing it to skid on.
Taking the pace off definitely looks like the best option.
Australia looked like they were going to score 800 at one point.

It's at that point now where you just know Maxwell is going to accelerate.
Inglis takes a single to bring Maxwell on strike and he picks up four immediately, dropping low for the reverse sweep, the ball flies uppishly past deep point.
Nope, umpire's call for a strike on leg stump - the decision stands.
He was caught deep in his crease, a bit of luck for the new batter.

It's a review of hope. They're not convinced.
Does Santner have Josh Inglis lbw second ball?
Nothing from the umpire and Tom Latham looks unconvinced in conference with his bowler, but then makes the hand signal - we'll go upstairs.

An unnecessary shot. Marnus faces 14 dots in his 24 balls and so that's a shot of frustration.
He doesn't need to play shots like that early on especially when he is batting with Glenn Maxwell, who can hit the boundaries freely. It has given New Zealand an opportunity to creep back in.

Labuschagne was never in control of that. Ravindra has done well to take that catch, the sun was right in his eyes.
Labuschagne c Ravindra b Santner 18 (Aus 274-5)
Are Australia... blowing this?
Ghastly shot from Labuschagne, top edging to Ravindra at deep mid-wicket. Having reached 175 without loss, they've added 100 for the last five wickets.

Trent Boult has bowled to Glenn Maxwell seven times in ODIs, and got him out six times. I guess that's what we call a match-up!
A first four for Maxwell, smacking Trent Boult down the ground.
Early days...

Labuschagne turned blind and there was never a second there. Maxwell was not interested.
The throw went to the wrong end so he's safe. But he definitely changed direction and got in the way of the ball so if that had hit him, he could have been in trouble with the umpires.
Chance of a run out!
Labuschagne cuts through third and takes the first run fast. He turns for a second and scampers down the pitch but is sent back. Ravindra's throw comes into Tom Latham, who throws down the pitch - it passes just wide of the stumps and the diving Australia batter.

There have been a few occasions in this World Cup where Australia haven't got as many runs as they should have, from the positions they've been in. That could happen again, unless this man, Glenn Maxwell, gets going. He is a very good player of spin.
In comes Glenn Maxwell, scorer of the fastest World Cup century in this last outing.
Shouts from the New Zealand fielders as they think they almost have him first ball - Santner's ball scuffs through and the Australians run a single through slip. There's a suggestion of an edge - replays show it didn't touch the Australian batter, given as a bye.

It's a beautiful bit of bowling but it's not a good shot. There was a huge gap between bat and pad.

That skidded on straight through Marsh's defence. It was a struggling innings, he never got going.
