  1. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 36.3 overs

    Marsh b Santner 36 (Aus 264-4)

Sends one to the ropes... out next ball.

Mitchell Santner drags one a little short and Mitchell Marsh slaps him through midwicket with a meaty pull.

A much better ball follows from the New Zealand all-rounder, bit of drift and Marsh doesn't really play any sort of shot. The ball skips through and takes the top of off.

He departs for 36 from 51 deliveries.

Marnus has been working on that sweep shot because it doesn't come naturally to him. He plays it well in front of square by getting very low, and with a long reach to get that power.

  3. Aus 260-3published at 36 overs

After this over for story time, alright?

A second boundary for Marnus Labuschagne, sweeping Rachin Ravindra's final delivery through mid-wicket. Spoils the over for the New Zealand spinner, who'd gone for just two singles prior to that.

    Thanks Jonty.

I mean, let's not make this too much of a thing, OK?

  5. Aus 254-3published at 35 overs

Mitchell Marsh drives for four off the penultimate ball of the innings, scoring his first boundary in what feels like a lifetime.

That's all from me, I shall hand you over to Mike Peter to take you through the next portion of this match.

Stand by for his, let's just say interesting, getting ready for work story that he graced the office with earlier this morning...

New Zealand have started to rally, with Glenn Phillips picking up three wickets in his 10 overs.

  7. Aus 248-3published at 34 overs

Good stuff from Rachin Ravindra, with just two singles coming off it.

Maybe consolidation, but it still feels really slow from Marsh, sitting on 26 off 42, although Head and Warner before him smacking the ball all around the mountains probably does not help the sense of perspective.

Matt Henry is back into the attack, having gone for 44 off his previous three overs.

The first 19 overs were completely bizarre. It was just ludicrous.

It was four or six pretty much every ball. It's made us a bit impatient now in this middle phase.

Trent Boult has gone to death bowling and it is working so far. He's bowling a lot of slower balls and yorkers.

  10. Aus 246-3published at 33 overs

Six come from this one from Trent Boult, who is yet to concede a boundary since his return to the attack.

It feels like almost death bowling in the 33rd over, but it is working so far.

Rachin Ravindra replaces Glenn Phillips at the other end.

Glenn Phillips has kept New Zealand alive.

    Sort of.

  12. Aus 240-3published at 32 overs

Two dot balls end the over, with an interruption from spider cam disrupting both batter Labuschagne and batter Phillips.

Trent Boult continues at the other end.

  13. Aus 240-3published at 31.4 overs

Marnus Labuschagne finds his first boundary, reverse sweeping fine for four.

Phillips is adamant that hit the front pad, but wicket-keeper Tom Latham is having none of it.

  14. Aus 233-3published at 31 overs

A good over from Boult on his return and he probably should have a wicket to his name after that drop from Mitchell.

At the other end, Phillips continues, having taken all three wickets so far.

He was more falling than diving. He hasn't quite judged it right, he probably needed to take another stride, but having got there I'm surprised he didn't take it.

  16. dropped catch

Labuschagne dropped on 1published at 30.4 overs

The return to pace via Trent Boult almost brings an instant wicket.

That one was hit out to Daryl Mitchell at third man, that ball lands into his hands but it is dropped.

New Zealand are really taking the game to Australia after a woeful start.

What Phillips has done so well is he's just looked to targeting the stumps. He's kept it simple - changed his pace, but he's kept his line. He's gone back to the basics - go straight, be great.

  18. Aus 230-3published at 30 overs

That was the 18th consecutive over of spin from New Zealand. Before they started that run, Australia were 133-0 off just 12 overs.

In the 18 overs since, they have been 97-3, quite the turnaround.

Barring a real implosion, Australia should still set a very big total, but New Zealand are certainly steering this match back in a more competitive direction.

Glenn Phillips has been a little bit of a game-changer for New Zealand. With Labuschagne coming in and Marsh struggling to get going, there's a bit of a chance.
