  1. NZ 147-2published at 20.3 overs

    Target 389

A really nice late cut from Ravindra guides that delivery off Zampa for four.

It's shots like that where New Zealand just need to be consistent, keep them ticking over and they have chance.

New Zealand are still in this game. They're not going all guns blazing, they're accumulating their runs and building partnerships, staying in the game that way.

    Thanks, Ffion.

Earlier in commentary, Ross Taylor said that if New Zealand can get to a point where they need 120 with 10 overs to go, this match is winnable.

From here, they need to score at 6.35 for the next 20 overs to get to the point where they are chasing from Taylor's suggested 40 over target.

  4. NZ 142-2published at 20 overs

    Target 389

A couple of horrendous wides from Starc make it a long and expensive over.

The target of 389 still looks very, very far away though.

And after another eventful 20-over stint, I'm off. To take you through the next 10 overs, here's Jonty Colman.

Slower ball from Starc, running his fingers along the side of the ball. Slightly too full and Mitchell punishes him - down the ground.

  6. NZ 137-2published at 19.2 overs

Daryl Mitchell has had enough. He launches back-to-back fours off Mitchell Starc.

    Is this the over?

It'll be an Australia v India final. These two have too much quality for everyone else to keep up with. But I'm pessimistic that NZ won't go down without having their say in the matter, or South Africa. I reckon India's magnificent fans will be their 12th man in that final. Will that play into India's hands? Get under the Aussies skin? Either way, it'll be a good final.

When you look at these two sides, you'd say New Zealand have been pretty dominant. But Australia have come into form at the right time.

  9. NZ 129-2published at 19 overs

    Target 389

Another slow over. Zampa goes for just three.

    Australia are surging ahead now.

I got Australia in the pub sweepstake and I now have very conflicting emotions over how they are playing...

Not too far from Zampa, who's having a chat with one of the coaches on the boundary edge - he ended up having to run in.

  12. NZ 125-2published at 18 overs

    Target 389

Oh, almost! Rachin Ravindra takes on the short ball and the top edge flies down to Adam Zampa at fine leg, but it just lands safely in front of him.

Just five from Cummins' over. One of Ravindra or Mitchell is going to have to pick up the pace and I suspect it'll be the latter.

  13. De Leede up and runningpublished at 25 overs

    Netherlands 99-4

Bas de Leede has started to find some rhythm for the Netherlands.

The Dutch all-rounder has struck a couple of boundaries in his 14 off 25 balls alongside Scott Edwards (22*) as they attempt to build a partnership for the fifth wicket.

Bangladesh bowling coach Allan Donald, meanwhile, has been patrolling the boundary at Eden Gardens like a nervous father.

  14. NZ 121-2published at 17.2 overs

The thumps up to thumbs down ratio on my question at 16 overs is quite revealing.

  15. How's stat?!published at 11:22 British Summer Time 28 October 2023

The match total for the two opening powerplays is 191, Australia with 118 and New Zealand 73. That's the third highest in ODI history.

If New Zealand are to win this game, Adam Zampa will need to be taken down.

  17. 6 runs

    NZ 120-2published at 17 overs

    Target 389

    Huge!

Adam Zampa starts well with three dots to Daryl Mitchell, before he gets a lucky four down to fine leg and follows it with an almighty heave down the ground for six.

11 from the over. Need a few more overs like that to get their momentum back.

  18. NZ 109-2published at 16 overs

    Target 389

Just two from Pat Cummins' over.

How is everyone feeling about the fact that Australia are probably going to win the World Cup?

Glenn Maxwell bowling quick and straight and at five an over, that required run rate is just going up and up. He's doing a job.

Some poor fielding, I think it may be a lack of trust in the field plus the pace of the ball.
