I played with Dawid Malan for 15 years or so at Middlesex and I've never seen him do that. He's like a different person, he turned into Jonty Rhodes or something there.

What a stop, that is stunning from Malan, where did that come from? What a great stop.

Dawid Malan momentarily turns into Superman with a wonderful full-stretch dive at cover to deny Virat Kohli a certain boundary.

Frustration for Kohli, who is yet to score from six balls...

England have been good, there was that one David Willey over that went for 18 when Rohit Sharma put the hammer down, but they've lost Shubman Gill in this spell.

    He is in decent form.

That would have been a fantastic breakthrough.

  7. Ind 27-1published at 6 overs

    Edge... doesn't carry to slip!

Chris Woakes is bowling very nicely here. A maiden to Rohit Sharma is not an easy feat.

Chris Woakes had only taken two wickets in this competition before that at an average of 82.5.

I always think it must be so demoralising to have the crowd literally cheering you getting out just because they want to see the guy after you have a bat.

Although it would make it a bit more entertaining if Kohli gets a duck. Not that it happens often.

Silence turns into a huge roar as Virat Kohli crosses the boundary rope before Shubman Gill has even left the square.

It's a lovely delivery from Woakes, he was hammering away at the top of the stumps, that was the correct length. The seam is pointing directly upright. It finds the gap between bat and pad.

    A beauty!

Chris Woakes gets one to nip off the seam and beats Shubman Gill's defences. He goes for a big drive but is deceived by the movement and England are delighted.

It's Rohit that has done the bulk of the scoring so far, but an early wicket will boost their confidence.

Like Kate in Stockport at 08:21, I have a suspicion we might just play a blinder and be the only team to beat India in the entire tournament. Just to really irritate the crowd, Kohli to go for a duck as well?

That last shot was absolutely beautiful. As Rohit sets his feet, there's a slight little pause. It's like a golf shot, the second it left the bat, David Willey knew the fate of that ball as his head just slumped.

    Well.

The maiden to start the innings was nice while it lasted.

Rohit sends the last ball of the over sailing into the crowd for six more.

Just the 18 from the over.

    Or not.

Too short from Willey and Rohit launches it into the stands. The crowd has come alive.

If Virat Kohli is India's favourite, Rohit Sharma is their second. He's almost two players in one, that one was in his clubbing mode.

  18. Ind 8-0published at 2.2 overs

Rohit Sharma has clearly had enough of David Willey's dot balls.

He treats him like a spinner instead, skipping down the pitch and slogging the ball down the ground for four.

It was a bit of a heave - could be a win for the bowler, that. It's a risky option.

It took 38 hours and two nights' sleep.

  20. Ind 4-0published at 2 overs

Just the four from the over, as England start solidly.

Chris Woakes' last ball is too wide and beautifully driven by Gill, but straight to a waiting Jonny Bairstow at cover.
