Angelo Mathews has some thinking to do now after that wicket. Does he go for boundaries or look for twos?

He doesn't want singles as he could then lose the strike for three or four deliveries, or even lose the ninth and 10th wickets.

    Theekshana b Farooqi 29 (SL 230-8)

Brilliant yorker to peg back middle stump!

Fazal Farooqi went round the wicket and just arrowed the ball into the block hole as Maheesh Theekshana tried to force it through the off side.

A very useful knock from the Sri Lanka number nine but Afghanistan manage to slow the momentum again.

That was a nothing ball really, it gave Maheesh Theekshana the chance where even a top edge would have been enough to get runs.

This is turning into a really useful innings from Theekshana.

  4. 6 runs

    SL 228-7published at 46.3 overs

Banged in short and Maheesh Theekshana hammers the ball over deep mid-wicket!

Having just put a man back at long-off, I'm pretty sure that's not the ball that Fazal Farooqi was going for.

This is a useful partnership for Sri Lanka. Add another 20-25 runs, get close to that 250 mark and they will be right into this game.

It is turning into a good contest between bat and ball.

    Mathews 17, Theekshana 22

Naveen-ul-Haq keeps Sri Lanka to just singles after that six first ball.

Decent recovery from the seamer but, with four overs to go, Sri Lanka have given themselves a chance of getting up to a defendable total.

What a shot. It was like a no-look flick.

  8. 6 runs

    SL 218-7published at 45.1 overs

    Remarkable shot from Angelo Mathews!

He looks to be in a bit of trouble as Naveen-ul-Haq's short ball rears up towards his armpit.

But somehow, he manages to flick the ball up and over short fine leg, all the way for six.

  9. SL 212-7published at 45 overs

A typically tidy over from Rashid Khan and he's bowled out.

The spinner ends with figures of 1-50 in his 100th ODI, slightly more expensive that he's used to but solid nonetheless.

Gurbaz has done really well to take it so cleanly. Like a goalkeeper saving a penalty.

He was slightly wrongfooted and leaning to the left, so had to push off and dive to the right. But it was a good take all the same.

  11. SL 208-7published at 44 overs

Edged... but just short of Rahmanullah Gurbaz behind the stumps as he flings himself to his right.

Maheesh Theekshana was trying to run the ball away fine but not that fine. Great stop from the wicketkeeper, though.

That is dreadful fielding from Mohammad Nabi. There is no other word to describe it. When your team-mates have done so well there is no excuse.

  13. SL 206-7published at 43.2 overs

Having done so well to put themselves in the ascendency, Afghanistan have started to make a few mistakes.

A firm drive from Maheesh Theekshana after a half-volley from Naveen-ul-Haq but it's straight to Mohammad Nabi at cover.

However, it goes straight through Nabi's legs and away to the boundary. Poor fielding.

Afghanistan have continued to chip away at the Sri Lanka batting line-up with these two wickets helping to restrict the total they will be chasing later.

  15. 200 runs

    SL 202-7published at 43 overs

Four more! Guided through backward point by Maheesh Theekshana and the deep third fielder can't get there.

Same shot to finish the over but this time the fielder is able to get around in time.

The 200 is up after a productive over for Sri Lanka.

  16. SL 197-7published at 42.4 overs

Full toss outside off stump from Amzatullah Omarzai and it's thumped through the covers for four.

Maheesh Theekshana gratefully accepts that gift.

  17. SL 193-7published at 41 overs

Rashid Khan is into his penultimate over and, quite wisely, Angelo Mathews and Maheesh Theekshana decide this is no time for risks.

The Sri Lanka pair take four singles from the first five balls before Rashid tries to tempt Theekshana into a big shot.

Having put a man on the rope, the leg-spinner tosses up a very slow, loopy delivery but Theekshana restrains himself and just nudges into the leg side for one.

    Thanks, Tim.

Having been going quite nicely at 134-2, Sri Lanka have got themselves into a real mess.

They've got 10 overs to try and get themselves some more runs on the board and give the bowlers something to defend.

Three singles from Amzatullah Omarzai keep them ticking over.

Right, I'm going to grab a quick cup of chai myself. Sam Drury is here to see how many runs Sri Lanka can muster from here.

They both set off pretty much straight away but Dushmantha Chameera took a little bit longer to get up to full speed, though I'm not sure even full speed would have been enough.

The story of the innings continues for Sri Lanka as they keep regularly losing wickets.
