Good shot from Dhananjaya de Silva. It is dragged down from Tanzim Hasan and De Silva pulls away powerfully for four.
A Sri Lanka fan in a giant lion costume enjoyed that. He looks to be loving life right now.
The Angelo Mathews debate continues to rumble on. Should he have checked his equipment properly before heading out to the middle? Or maybe alerted the umpire before calling for a replacement?
Or is this a safety issue that supersedes those issues and Shakib Al Hasan should not appeal/withdraw the appeal when he became aware of it?

Mathews arrived at the crease in time and with his helmet on. That should have been taken into account. As soon as the strap broke his instinct was to fix it. Who at that moment wouldn't have done so? Then there's the fact that when fielding sides waste time, their punishment is having to move a fielder into the circle. The batting side however loses a batsman. That seems a massively disproportionate punishment.

Yep. Comfortably home.
As you were.
The umpires are just going to have a second look at an attempted run out after a direct hit from the outfield.
Dhananjaya de Silva looked to be home in time but it is going upstairs.

Angelo Mathews looked to be out there in plenty of time and then there was a failure of equipment.
When there is a failure of equipment then it becomes nothing to do with time.
The helmet is about safety. I'm not liking this. I think something has happened out there which shouldn't have happened.

The partnership is starting to build between Asalanka and Dhananjaya. Both are going nicely.

If the fielding side are going to be penalised for being behind the over rate then the batters need to be ready in time.

Lovely fast hands from Charith Asalanka.
Another brilliant, wristy stroke from Charith Asalanka as he carves the ball through square leg.
A decent bouncer from Tanzim Hasan is then pulled off the glove by Dhananjaya de Silva down to the rope to bring up the 50 partnership.
A fired-up Ben Stokes went ballistic a Lord's after the Bairstow incident, could Sri Lanka react in a similar way here?

Everyone likes a bit of controversy, don't they?

We haven't had a good row in this World Cup.
Well, we've got one now.
There's definite Bairstow/Carey vibes from last summer. Could Shakib Al Hasan have withdrawn the appeal?
Don't forget Angelo Mathews has every right to wear a helmet if he chooses to - even when facing a spinner he could still top-edge the ball into his face.
Meanwhile, back to the action, three singles come from Mehidy Hasan's latest over.

I wonder if this drinks break is the break that everyone needed after the Mathews wicket.
Maybe Bangladesh thought they were within their rights by the laws of the game. But within the spirit?

Mathews getting timed out... seems similar to the Bairstow incident in that although the batter is technically out, both situations grate against the spirit of the game.

Next time, Angelo, maybe face one ball without the helmet on, no?

I can see this turning into a debate over the spirit of cricket.

I think he was ready to face the ball. He was on the pitch and his equipment failed him.
I think there was a mistake there.
We have just seen more replays of a furious Angelo Mathews heading down a tunnel towards the dressing rooms. He appears to be indicating that he was ready in his stance to face his first ball before discovering that his helmet strap had broken.
This one will run and run.
A calm head among the chaos, Charith Asalanka pulls the ball away through square leg to the rope to bring up his half-century.
A terrific knock given the circumstances.
