Pathum Nissanka, the form player, he was looking so good but he's chopped onto his stumps.

Reward for some excellent bowling from Tanzim, he put the ball in some good areas.

  2. wicket

    Nissanka b Tanzim 41 (SL 72-3)

    No. No it is not.

Pathum Nissanka looks to drive away again but it catches the inside edge instead. That sends the ball crashing into middle stump and Tanzim Hasan has a wicket on World Cup debut.

Pathum Nissanka has looked good again.

He's got four half-centuries and a 46 in the tournament so far.

Is today the day he finally converts?

  4. SL 69-2published at 12 overs

Sadeera Samarawickrama is the new batter. He's off the mark first ball.

There's a healthy crowd in Delhi despite the air quality concerns and this game being unlikely to have any impact on the World Cup.

Captain v captain. That's exactly what Shakib would have wanted to do and a great sliding catch on the boundary from Shoriful.

Bangladesh's fielding has not been good in this tournament but it's been on point today.

Shakib Al Hasan, injured or not, has got the breakthrough.

Bangladesh roaring back into the game.

  7. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 11.3 overs

    Mendis c Shoriful b Shakib 19 (SL 66-2)

    Soft!

The pressure has got to Kusal Mendis here, I reckon.

This is a bit of a nothing shot. It's not a tap for a single, it's not a full-blooded shot looking for six.

It ends up being a little chip and Shoriful Islam is able to get around and take the catch at long-on to give Shakib Al Hasan a wicket with his third ball.

For all the talk before the game of playing down the rivalry, interesting to talk out there already between the players.

But this has been a good recovery from Sri Lanka after the early wicket.

Bangladesh just need to keep their heads.

More chat going on now between Tanzim and Kusal Mendis.

I expect Marais Erasmus will be stepping in.

  10. SL 64-1published at 11 overs

Streaky from Kusal Mendis as he edges through the vacant slip cordon and away for four.

It draws some words from Tanzim Hasan. The pair seem quite tetchy at the moment.

How far has that gone? Just far enough for six. That was a big blow.

  12. 6 runs

    SL 58-1published at 10.1 overs

    First six of the day.

It is short from Tanzim Hasan and Kusal Mendis pulverises a pull over wide mid-on.

Superb shot. Will that get Mendis going?

You could see the disappointment on Taskin's face when that reached the boundary because, until that point, it had been a good over.

  14. SL 52-1published at 10 overs

Full and wide from Taskin Ahmed and Pathum Nissanka gratefully climbs into it and crashes away another boundary.

A decent powerplay from Sri Lanka in the end. Nissanka has 39 off 32 balls and Kusal Mendis is seven not out from 23 balls.

Bangladesh came into this tournament with very realistic ambitions of reaching the semi-finals.

Their performances over the last three or four years suggested they could manage that.

Until five or six weeks before the tournament, everything seemed to be going in the right direction but with the captaincy and coaching changes, everything seems to have fallen apart very quickly.

  16. SL 47-1published at 9 overs

Four more singles taken off Tanzim Hasan.

There's no signs of the players struggling with the air quality in Delhi at the moment, but that may develop as the innings progresses and bowlers get tired or batters get deeper into their innings.

From Sri Lanka's point of view, they're coming into this game with low confidence.

They were bowled out for 55 in their previous game so you would think, with this platform, if they can keep building this platform then those coming in can play with more freedom.

  18. SL 43-1published at 8 overs

Another tidy over from Taskin Ahmed, conceding four singles and wide. He's got figures of 0-11 from four overs.

Sri Lanka, after the loss of Kusal Perera in the first over, are rebuilding nicely. Is today the day that Pathum Nissanka is able to capitalise on a start?

I'm going to need to have a word with Stephan. Have you seen the way he swings on the back of his chair?

Weren't we taught not to do that in primary school?!

Tanzim is all over Pathum Nissanka here but he's gone for back-to-back boundaries.

Short ball followed by the full one. Where's the slip?
