    Thanks Tom.

Who knows what might happen in this innings. Just grab a brew and some snacks and join us.

I suspect we may see Angelo Mathews with the ball when Shakib Al Hasan comes out to bat.

Well, I suspect some people will getting their stopwatches out after that.

What is for certain is this match has had an edge to it ever since.

Bangladesh openers Liton Das and Tanzid Hasan are out in good time to begin their innings.

While I take a break, I will leave you in the safe hands of Callum Matthews.

Fourth umpire Adrian Holdstock: "The ICC World Cup playing conditions supersede MCC Laws of Cricket.

"When it comes to timed out, the incoming batter has to be in position to receive the ball within two minutes.

"The TV umpire monitors the two minutes and he will then relay the message to the standing umpire. In this instance the batter wasn't ready within those two minutes even before the strap became an issue for him. The two minutes had already elapsed.

"According to the playing conditions, the fielding captain requested/initiated to the standing umpire that he wanted to appeal for timed out.

"As a batsman you need to make sure all your equipment is in place. You have to be ready to receive the ball in two minutes, not just take your guard. So technically you need to be in place after around 15 seconds so you can get ready to receive the ball."

I always get worried when people start going to the rulebook and combing through every single Law.

Sometimes you need to have a bit of common sense and flexibility.

He was out there, it wasn't like he was still in the dugout. He was pretty much ready to go.

With this being the first time we've seen this, I wonder if a rushed decision was made.

Shakib Al Hasan has his arms outstretched and I think he says 'howzat?' as well. He threw his arms up, it looked a little bit tongue in cheek but he has appealed.

We've just seen the replay now. He's ready to go and then the chinstrap breaks.

Angelo Mathews was ready to face a ball. Failure of equipment, get him a new helmet and we carry on.

  11. Watch: Mathews timed outpublished at 12:30 Greenwich Mean Time 6 November 2023

If you are just joining us - where have you been? You've missed all the fun!

The biggest talking point arrived in the 25th over immediately after the dismissal of Sadeera Samarawickrama.

Angelo Mathews came out to the middle and took his guard to face his first ball, but realised the strap on his helmet was broken. He then called for a replacement to be brought out, resulting in a lengthy delay.

In the ensuing delay Bangladesh skipper Shakib Al Hasan appealed to the umpires for timed out and it was given.

Mathews was on his way without facing a ball, the first player to be given timed out in international cricket.

    Drama.

Charith Asalanka wasn't asked about the Angelo Mathews wicket directly but clearly he thinks the spirit of cricket wasn't adhered to.

Sri Lanka's Charith Asalanka: "It is always a good feeling to hit a hundred. I am happy now.

"It [Mathews being timed out] is not good for the spirit of cricket. It is a rule of the game. But after that we had a good partnership and that is how we built a base.

"I always love batting with Dhananjaya de Silva with him being a right-hander and me being a left-hander. He always scores quickly and I love that.

"I was looking for 300 when i was batting but I think that score could be enough."

  14. Bangladesh need 280 to winpublished at 12:23 Greenwich Mean Time 6 November 2023

That was a chaotic end, wasn't it?

But the result is Sri Lanka are all out for 279, meaning Bangladesh need 280 to win.

That does not even tell half the story of the Sri Lanka innings, though.

A look back at what happened on a dramatic morning is coming right up.

I think this is out. Really good work from the keeper. Tenpin bowling style to hit the stumps.

Good work from Bangladesh to wrap things up.

  17. Umpire reviewpublished at 49.3 overs

I think Sri Lanka are done here.

They attempt a quick single as the ball goes through to wicketkeeper Mushfiqur Rahim, who throws the ball back onto the stumps.

Dushmantha Chameera looked short of his ground, but the umpires ask for a second look.

Good catch on the move. You've got to be aware of where the boundary is out there.

Rajitha goes second ball. He climbed up into it, tried to help it on its way but it's into the hands of the fielder.

    Rajitha c Das b Tanzim 0 (SL 278-9)

    Kasun Rajitha goes second ball.

It is short from Tanzim and Rajitha goes for the pull, but can only send the ball to the square leg boundary where Litton Das takes a smart catch.
