    Malan c Rizwan b Iftikhar 31 (Eng 82-1)

Gone! Good catch from Muhammad Rizwan.

Dawid Malan went for the reverse sweep, the ball bounced slightly more than he expected and flicks the top edge before looping up off his body.

Rizwan reacts well and dives to take the catch. A first wicket for Iftikhar Ahmed and Pakistan.

  2. Eng 82-0published at 13 overs

Steady stuff from Mohammad Wasim again, settling in on a good length around off stump.

England take three from the over with some good running bringing Jonny Bairstow two for a punch out to deep cover.

This period has been worrisome for Pakistan throughout the campaign. The middle overs of spin haven't been particularly fruitful for them.

  4. Eng 79-0published at 12 overs

Jonny Bairstow paddles sweeps for two to fine leg but otherwise England are happy to push the ball into the gaps for singles.

It's sensible batting on a pitch that is holding a touch and only getting slower.

  5. Eng 74-0published at 11 overs

Mohammad Wasim comes into the attack and, with a couple of extra fielders in the deep, Jonny Bairstow's firm drive brings only one rather than four.

Good start from the Pakistan seamer.

That was England's best powerplay of the World Cup.

  7. Eng 72-0published at 10 overs

A tidy, boundary-free over from Iftikhar Ahmed but that is a very good powerplay for England.

I'm not sure many would have expected this score after Dawid Malan and Jonny Bairstow played and missed their way through the first couple of overs.

A majestic shot from Dawid Malan. A lot of people will say he's getting on and this is his last match, but gosh he's a good player.

  9. Eng 68-0published at 9 overs

Better and better from Dawid Malan.

He pummels a pull shot through the leg side, one bounce for four, and follows it up with a sumptuous drive through the covers.

Not one of the fielders moved before it reached the boundary.

  10. Eng 59-0published at 8 overs

    Malan 16, Bairstow 32

The boundaries keep coming as Dawid Malan slices a lofted drive over backward point and the ball bobbles to the sponge.

We're already approaching the stage where Pakistan will need to score exclusively in boundaries to get through - and that's if they bowl England out extremely quickly for very few more runs.

  11. 50 runs

    Eng 53-0published at 7.1 overs

Babar Azam turns to spin for the first time to try and stem the flow of runs but to no avail.

Jonny Bairstow goes back and carves Iftikhar Ahmed's first ball through backward point for four.

That brings up the fifty partnership.

  12. Eng 49-0published at 7 overs

England were 8-0 after three overs but they've really pushed on in the last four, scoring at 10s in that time.

    Quite the turnaround.

Very nicely played by Jonny Bairstow. He controlled it and lifted it right at the end. A much easier option when cutting or hooking is more risky.

  14. 6 runs

    Eng 48-0published at 6.4 overs

After crunching the four through the covers for fur a couple of balls earlier, Jonny Bairstow latches onto a short ball from Shaheen Afridi and uppercuts it for six!

Nicely played and the ball drops just over the rope at deep third.

  16. Eng 38-0published at 6 overs

Shot! Dawid Malan picks up the length quickly and thumps Haris Rauf for four with a front-foot pull.

A push through the covers for two ends the over, 12 from it in total.

You'd have needed four Muhammad Rizwans stood on each other's shoulders to have taken that comfortably.

  18. Eng 32-0published at 5.3 overs

Five wides from Haris Rauf again and Mickey Arthur is throws his head back in disbelief on the Pakistan bench.

This time it was just extremely high. A bouncer that flies over Dawid Malan and over wicketkeeper and first slip.

  19. Eng 26-0published at 5 overs

England's openers might just be settling down now after a less than convincing start. But then, I've been fooled before...

Meanwhile, in the stands, a silver-haired England supporter is getting a transfer of the cross of St George stuck onto his cheek. And why not?

Jonny Bairstow has been groping around but that low pull for four will give him some confidence.
