The West Indies find themselves ever so slightly ahead of England at this stage. The tourists then accelerated for a few overs as Jos Buttler and Phil Salt made hay, before being pegged back.

The home side will hope their line can progress steadily upward.

    WI 56-1published at 5 overs

A six brings up the West Indian fifty!

A solid over from Woakes, with just three from the first five deliveries, is gleefully spoilt by Shai Hope, picking the slower ball and lumping it down the ground and over the ropes at long-on.

  3. dropped catch

    Dropped catchpublished at 4 overs

    WI 47-1

    Tough one!

Slower ball from Mills and Mayers tries to cleave him uppishly through the covers. It's the range of The Amazing Flying Duckett again, but this time he can't hold on as he tries to take the ball one-handed to his right.

    WI 46-1published at 3.5 overs

    Onto the roof again!

Kyle Mayers is put on his backside by a Tymal Mills bouncer but he gets his revenge a few balls later, lofting a 103 metre six onto the same Greenidge and Haynes Stand roof he found two overs ago.

He moves to 17 from 8 balls.

  5. WI 36-1published at 3 overs

Hope isn't hanging around either, he sends his first ball rifling down the ground for four.

He made scores of 109*, 68 and 15 in the ODI series, so it's fair to say he's in decent nick.

    King c Duckett b Woakes 22 (WI 32-1)

    What a take!

Brandon King unleashes on a slow, wide delivery from Chris Woakes - it looks to be heading to the boundary before Ben Duckett flies into view, taking the ball two-handed diving to his left.

Here comes the in-form Shai Hope...

  7. WI 30-0published at 2 overs

Mayers takes three to the square leg boundary bringing King back on strike to lash Jacks for four through mid-on.

Thirty on the board from two overs - an absolutely rapid start from the West Indies. But England started swiftly too...

  8. 6 runs

    WI 22-0published at 1.2 overs

Kyle Mayers spent the first over as a spectator but now he's getting in on the action!

Will Jacks drops his second ball short and Mayers picks it early, before dispatching a gigantic shot over mid-wicket.

The ball takes one bounce on the roof of the two-tier stand, then disappears behind it. Absolutely gigantic that - 99 metres, we're told.

  9. 6 runs

    WI 16-0published at 1 over

You know how I was talking about a quick game being a good game? Brandon King has taken that very literally.

He lofts Curran down the ground for four, then slogs him long for another six over long on.

    Sixteen from the over.

  10. 6 runs

    WI 6-0published at 0.2 overs

It took two balls and we have our first six of the innings.

Fired onto the pads by Curran and Brandon King clips him flat over square leg. Will Jacks is riding the boundary but the ball beats his dive.

Thanks Sam - hopefully I am the man with the answers.

It's the first match of the stop clock, and they've decided a quick game is a good game in all senses - Sam Curran is already at the top of his run-up...

It's time for us to make a change and here to give you a definitive answer as to whether England have got enough runs on the board, it's over to Mike Peter.

So have England thrown that away after a brilliant start or does the way the second half of that innings went bode well for them?

Batting certainly appeared to get much more difficult with pace off the ball working particularly well for the West Indies seamers.

There was some grip for spinner Akeal Hosein, too.

England will hope that remains the case but who knows? Perhaps dew will appear and change conditions completely?

  14. West Indies need 172 to winpublished at 23:46 Greenwich Mean Time 12 December 2023
    Breaking

An innings of two halves to tweak a football cliche.

England looked to be headed for a huge score after racking up 77 in the powerplay with Phil Salt and Jos Buttler going well.

That became 112-2 at the halfway stage before West Indies came roaring back.

All 10 wickets went down for just 94 following that bruising powerplay.

  15. wicket

Mills c Pooran b Joseph 0 (Eng 171 all out)

Good review! There was an under-edge from Tymal Mills and England have been bowled out.

A wild swipe from Mills and UltraEdge shows he has feathered it through to Nicholas Pooran.

Quite a comeback from the West Indies.

  16. West Indies reviewpublished at 19.3 overs

Swing and a miss from Tymal Mills. Or is it?

Rovman Powell sends it upstairs because Nicholas Pooran reckons there might have been bat on it.

  17. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 19.2 overs

    Rashid b Joseph 0 (Eng 170-9)

Off cutter from Alzarri Joseph, Adil Rashid has a big swish at it, misses and loses his middle stump.

England were 77-0 at the end of the powerplay and 112-2 at the halfway stage.

  18. Eng 169-8published at 19 overs

England have fallen away and Andre Russell has played a key part in that for the West Indies.

The all-rounder ends with impressive figures of 3-19 from his four overs.

    One over to go.

  19. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 18.5 overs

    Ahmed c Powell b Russell 1 (Eng 169-8)

In the slot from Andre Russell but the change of pace does the trick again.

Rehan Ahmed wanted to smack the ball over long on, didn't get anywhere near timing it as he needed to and Rovman Powell takes a comfortable catch two third of the way back to the boundary.

  20. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 18.1 overs

    Livingstone b Russell 27 (Eng 167-7)

Dragged on. That's a key wicket at this stage of the innings.

It's a slower ball again and Liam Livingstone wants to get on with it with balls running out.

But in trying to nail a ball from wide of off, he gets a thick edge onto his back leg and then onto his stumps.

Two wickets for Andre Russell on his return.
