Drinks are being taken after that wicket and that is the ideal chance for us to make a change.

Matthew Henry, having eventually sourced some milk for his cereal, is back to take you through the remainder of day two in Mumbai.

    Breakthrough for England.

Sophie Ecclestone has been targeted but she has hit back. Fired in at Smriti Mandhana's pads, the left-hander tries to turn it to leg but can't get it past Tammy Beaumont.

It's a very good catch at short leg as Beaumont moves quickly to her right.

    Six!

Sophie Ecclestone is back on and again the first ball of her spell is hit for a maximum.

It's a glorious straight drive from Shafali Verma this time. India are not going to let England's strike bowler settle.

  5. Ind 52-0published at 12 overs

A telling stat from the TV commentators. England have put down eight chances in this match.

    India have missed none.

  6. dropped catch

Verma dropped on 21published at 11.2 overs

    Ind 52-0

A day to forget for England as another catch goes down.

Shafali Verma flicks Charlie Dean into the leg side, the ball hangs in the air but Sophia Dunkley can't hold on at mid-wicket.

It wasn't an easy catch, low down to her right but having got to it, she'd expect to take it.

  7. Ind 50-0published at 11 overs

    Lead by 342

Smriti Mandhana drives out to deep cover for a single to bring up the fifty partnership.

The India openers have batted very nicely indeed but there has been a bit of a lull in the last couple of overs.

Not quite the same aggression or intent from the batters. There's every chance that changes again soon.

  8. Ind 48-0published at 10 overs

    Lead by 340

Tidy over from Charlie Dean. Just a single from it.

However, the last delivery stays low and, trailing by 340 already, that is far from ideal for England looking ahead to the fourth innings.

  9. Ind 47-0published at 9 overs

    Lead by 339

India's openers are enjoying themselves out there. The pressure is off and they can just play their shots.

Neither of them need any invitation to do so anyway and Shafali Verma drills the ball through the covers for the latest boundary of the innings.

  10. Ind 39-0published at 8 overs

    Lead by 331

Four good balls to begin Charlie Dean's latest over but the last two, well, they're not good.

The off-spinner gets away with a full toss that Shafali Verma hits to mid-off but a long hop that scuttles down leg costs England four byes.

  11. Ind 34-0published at 7 overs

    Lead by 326

Another lbw appeal to end the over but this one is turned down and England decide against a review.

A good first over from Kate Cross, though. Stump to stump and giving the batter no width to work with.

  12. Not outpublished at 6.5 overs

    Ind 34-0

    Sliding down leg.

It looked good in real time but from the first replay, it did look to be missing leg.

Ball-tracking confirms it and Shafali Verma is reprieved.

  13. India reviewpublished at 6.5 overs

Full and straight from Kate Cross and Shafali Verma misses and she plays across the line.

The umpire gives it out lbw but Verma goes for the review. Maybe sneaking down leg?

  14. Ind 31-0published at 6 overs

    Lead by 323

Five dot balls in Charlie Dean's first over but that big six from Shafali Verma keeps India moving along at a good pace.

Kate Cross will be on to bowl the next over as England search for a breakthrough.

  15. 6 runs

    Shafali Verma has had enough.

After missing with a slog-sweep to start Charlie Dean's over, she comes down the track and launches the ball high over deep mid-wicket for six!

You can't say that hasn't been coming - the team has been slowly regressing and too reliant on one bat and one bowler. Sadly, the back-up players are not good enough either.

  17. Ind 25-0published at 5 overs

    Verma 5, Mandhana 20

After facing 11 dot balls to start, Shafali Verma is off the mark with a boundary.

She opens the face of the bat nicely to guide the ball from Lauren Bell past gully.

A single to point keeps her on strike for the start of the next over.

A reminder that India have another Test three days after this one against Australia.

That could be an absolute corker and if the pitch is as lively as this one.

  19. Ind 20-0published at 4 overs

    Lead by 312

Sophie Ecclestone has not managed to settle early in her spell and Smriti Mandhana is making her pay.

An elegant cover drive brings four from the first ball of the over before the India opener punches a drag down through the off side for four more.

Guardian writer Raf Nicholson: Hindsight and all that, but how do England seem to always manage to get selection that little bit wrong?

Trent Bridge, 2023 - “We’ll only need 1 spinner.” Gardner & Ecclestone dominate.

Mumbai, 2023 - “nah, we won’t need another batter.”
