    Pope 173, Hartley 9

Lovely from Ollie Pope. He takes four more with that clever scoop over his head off the spinner.

That shot needs a name but I worry about what my boss will think of me suggesting the obvious combination of Pope and Scoop.

Encouraging signs that Hartley’s disappointing first-innings bowling doesn’t seem to have dented his confidence. England’s spinners will have a huge part to play later on.

Eight overs later than they could have, India have decided to take that new ball.

    Will this change things?

    Lead by 171

Matt (see 04:25) might be dancing on the streets of Utrecht because England have gone beyond his target of 170. They get their with a brilliant strike from Tom Hartley, who biffs Ashwin straight.

A ball later in the over spits to Ollie Pope. There's still plenty there.

Pope is continuing to bat as fluently as yesterday. Make no mistake, this is one of the great innings. It should do wonders for his career going forwards.

  6. Eng 352-7published at 87 overs

    Pope 167, Hartley 2

There are plenty of easy runs on offer here with the field spread field so widely. It's why the scoreboard is ticking freely.

While Pope is still there we can get anything but I reckon we need at least 220 to have a chance.

Has Ollie Pope's foot left the crease as the bails were whipped off?

India appealed strongly but don't look too confident.

Ravichandran Ashwin is into his tricks already. First he aborts his run-up as if he's checking for a run-out at the non-striker's end and then he does a peculiar jig in his approach.

It's like he's doing those heel flicks in a school PE class warm-up.

Keeper KS Bharat screams at one of the fielders as Ollie Pope gets back for two. Frustration?

Hopefully Pope continues to display the same stubbornness this morning as my 5 week old daughter Phoebe, in refusing to lie down quietly.

Watching with my newborn son asleep on me after a night feed. Will wake him up to see Pope get his double ton. Lead of 200 would make things interesting.

  14. Eng 347-7published at 85 overs

    Pope 163, Hartley 2

Looking more widely, it would already be the fifth-highest fourth-innings chase in India since 2010.

Don't forget there's no Virat Kohli - the chase master.

One from Bumrah's third over of the day.

Only once before have India chased this many to beat England in a Test in India - the famous 387 in Chennai in 2008. That maybe says more about how often England have ever been able set India a target here.

There are more singles than Love Island available to Ollie Pope and he's happy to take them.

Tom Hartley, meanwhile, looks like he is going to take the attacking approach with two lusty blows out to fielders in the deep.

Interesting to see how Hartley plays. He threw the bat in the first innings and was quite effective. But there’s a man on 150 at the other end. Will be play for Pope or try to hit vital runs?

  18. Eng 339-7published at 83 overs

Tom Hartley survives the rest of Jasprit Bumrah's over. Does that wicket change the way Ollie Pope plays? He's been pretty aggressive throughout anyway, I guess.

170 would be interesting.. I'd still expect this India side to chase it given their ability on these wickets and we would need to bowl significantly better than in the first innings to have a chance!

Tom Hartley is the new batter. He attacked in the first innings but what does he do here?

The lead is 149 at the moment.
