  1. Ind 146-3published at 43 overs

The India batters exchange singles off Hartley to keep the scoreboard ticking along.

Meanwhile the TV cameras pick out a man wearing a pinstripe suit and bowler hat - rather you than me, that must be absolutely sweltering.

    Just waking up?

England made a very good start this morning in reducing India to 33-3.

Mark Wood dismissed opener Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shubman Gill while Tom Hartley had Rajat Patidar caught.

Crucially, though, Joe Root dropped Rohit Sharma on 27 off Hartley. The India captain has continued in an unbroken stand worth more than 100 with Ravindra Jadeja to bring the hosts right back into this.

The pitch is good for batting. There was a bit of life early on but that seems to have gone now these two are in.

  3. Ind 144-3published at 42 overs

Oooh, Jadeja almost chops Wood's delivery onto his stumps. It's an inside edge, but unfortunately the ball slips away into the fine leg region for a single.

The England seamer then beats the bat of Rohit.

  4. Ind 143-3published at 41 overs

Ben Stokes has left a big gap at point and Rohit Sharma finds it, easing Tom Hartley's delivery away for four.

It's the only scoring shot of the over - in Hartley's eight overs since lunch, half of them have seen five dot balls and one go for runs.

A burst here for Mark Wood could be key. Stokes will be hoping the reverse swing works for Wood with a bit more pace. England need a wicket.

  6. Ind 139-3published at 40 overs

England bring back Mark Wood in place of James Anderson. There's a bit of a delay as the Durham man walks down to the boundary to supervise the moving of the sight screens.

Jadeja gets on top of a delivery to crunch it through point. Rehan Ahmed runs round to try and cut off the boundary, but the ball just beats his dive.

The India all-rounder averages 136 in first class cricket at this ground, his home domestically for Saurashtra. Ominous.

The hundred partnership for India at drinks is a major milestone. Rohit and Jadeja look organised, in control and are using their experience.

  8. Ind 133-3published at 39 overs

Tom Hartley enters his 15th over - Rehan Ahmed has had just the one before lunch, while Joe Root has bowled three.

Rohit sends his final ball into mid-wicket for two and that's the hundred partnership. An excellent rebuilding job after England took those three early wickets.

The sides will now take drinks.

  9. Ind 130-3published at 38 overs

A rare bad ball from Anderson is punished by Rohit, clipping away a ball on the legs for four.

The India captain moves to 71.

  10. Ind 126-3published at 37 overs

Rohit takes three as he edges Hartley past slip.

It's the only scoring shot of the over.

  11. Ind 123-3published at 36 overs

A repeat of Anderson's first over of the session, as he sends down another maiden to Jadeja.

The India all-rounder prods at the final delivery - all hands and no foot movement, but the ball passes cleanly into the gloves of Ben Foakes.

  12. Ind 123-3published at 35 overs

Rohit takes a two from Hartley's fifth ball, pushing into square leg.

Aside from the six, it's been a good post-lunch spell for the England spinner, his five overs have gone for just 13.

Reverse swing on day one. Jasprit Bumrah will be licking his lips.

  14. Ind 121-3published at 34 overs

Some lovely bowling from Anderson here, swinging the ball around.

One delivery flies over Jadeja's stumps, before another just evades the bat of Rohit Sharma, the opener going to play before changing his mind.

As a reminder, it would have been 47-4 if Root had held that edge off Rohit.

  16. 6 runs

    Ind 119-3published at 33 overs

If anyone was falling into a stupor after an early alarm clock, Rohit Sharma has just done his best to wake you up.

He clouts Tom Hartley's penultimate ball down the ground for six - he actually toe-ended it a little, but such was his commitment it didn't matter.

It is the first bowling change after lunch with Anderson coming on. There are still signs of movement and swing for him, which England need. He will be looking to create pressure.

  18. Ind 111-3published at 32 overs

Steph mentioned Cheteshwar Pujara - Rajkot is actually his home ground, he's racked up the runs for Saurashtra here since making his debut in 2005.

A regular in the India Test side for so many years, he'll be disappointed to have missed out on a home Test, only the third played at this ground. He did, however, score a century in the first - a draw against England in 2016.

Meanwhile another Saurashtra man, Ravindra Jadeja, sees off a maiden from James Anderson, who has replaced Mark Wood.

  19. Ind 111-3published at 31 overs

India move onto Nelson as their batters work a couple of singles off Hartley.

Meanwhile in the stands a number of schoolchildren are willing on the home side with great enthusiasm.

Cheteshwar Pujara is here, he's been netting out the back. There was a big event here last night for the renaming of the stadium.
