  1. Postpublished at 15:57 British Summer Time 6 April

    Notts 193-4 v Essex 253

Jack Haynes' serene progress has a mild interruption as a leading edge of Shane Snater loops up towards mid on, before falling to earth safely.

Notts are now 60 short of Essex's first innings.

  2. Bears pass 150 for two down at Edgbastonpublished at 15:55 British Summer Time 6 April

    Warwks 155-2 v Worcs 360

Ed Barnard is on the charge with a brace of fours against former Pears team mate Joe Leach.

He clips the bowler through cover off the back foot and follows that up with a back foot drive through point to bring up the Warwickshire 150 in the 40th over.

Four more to Barnard off the bowling of Adam Finch in the next over with a cut through gully - and that's a 50 partnership with Rhodes in 78 balls.

  3. wicket

WICKET Gilchrist b Goldsworthy 2published at 15:54 British Summer Time 6 April

    Kent 222-8 v Somerset

A touch of club cricket on a Saturday afternoon about this one!

Lewis Goldsworthy, with some left-arm around the wicket - no real hint of turn. Nathan Gilchrist goes for a big heave across the line and misses!

After some stout defence, he falls to the part-timer!

  4. wicket

WICKET Zaib c Carter b Coles 36published at 15:50 British Summer Time 6 April

    Sussex v Northants 289-7

Northants could fade quickly from here.

James Coles grabs the key wicket of Saif Zaib, who is forward trying to scoop the left arm spinner on to the leg side - and he lofts a catch to Oli Carter at forward short leg via inside edge and glove.

Michael Finan is on debut for Northants and he comes in at number nine.

  5. Postpublished at 15:49 British Summer Time 6 April

    Warwks 142-2 v Worcs 360

Ed Barnard is playing a very handy innings here and he picks up his fourth boundary, staying in his crease to Matthew Waite and driving neatly through cover.

Has he batted as high as number four before? He's looking comfortable there today.

Waite bowls a tighter line to Rhodes who defends down the track.

  6. Postpublished at 15:48 British Summer Time 6 April

    Middlesex 34-0 v Glamorgan 620-3 dec

Middlesex do have a pair of (former) England openers in their ranks in Mark Stoneman and Sam Robson with 18 Tests between them.

They have a mammoth task in front of them as they reply to the Sam Northeast-inspired 620-3 dec.

Even the declaration comes at 471!

But they have made a steady start as they try to reach tea unscathed.

  7. Intervalpublished at 15:46 British Summer Time 6 April

    Lancs 101-2 v Surrey

The teams are off for 20 minutes, with Josh Bohannon on 44 after an even first session at a blustery Old Trafford.

  8. Postpublished at 15:44 British Summer Time 6 April

    Sussex v Northants 287-6

Zaib moves on to 34 with a cover drive off the bowling of Hudson-Prentice.

The bowler tightens his line and Zaib blocks into the off side.

Zaib has batted fluently from the outset and a second batting point is in sight.

Worryingly, rain could come in to view soon, with reported showers elsewhere on the south coast.

Godzilla Kong: By my (admittedly imperfect) maths, Sam Northeast has already ensured he finishes the season with an average in double figures. #bbccricket

Even with a mediocre run of form from here, there's probably a high chance he will end 2024 with a terrific average!

Daniel: Middlesex are such exceptional all-rounders - can't bat and can't bowl. What an awful start to our season. #bbccricket

Terrific stuff, an hour and a half at the crease and Jack Haynes has really, really impressed.

They'll certainly be a few more for him.

    A terrific knock.

  11. 50 runs

50 for Jack Haynespublished at 15:41 British Summer Time 6 April

    Notts 183-4 v Essex 253

What a debut for Jack Haynes! He's reached 50 off 79 deliveries, having moved to Trent Bridge from Worcestershire since the end of last season.

  12. 50 runs

50 for Will Rhodespublished at 15:40 British Summer Time 6 April

    Warwks 136-2 v Worcs 360

Joe Leach drops the ball short and Ed Barnard pulls it round the corner for four runs.

Matthew Waite is bowling at the other end and Will Rhodes completes a 72-ball 50 with a drive through cover for his 10th four.

That's his 24th half century in first class cricket.

  13. 50 runs

50 for Ben Mikepublished at 15:38 British Summer Time 6 April

Ben Mike slashes Jordan Thompson to the boundary at third and brings up a 50 that will be all the more sweet, coming against his former side.

He's reached it off 53 balls with six fours and three fours.

  14. ouch!

Postpublished at 15:36 British Summer Time 6 April

    Sussex v Northants 277-6

Hudson-Prentice loses his radar, spearing the ball leg side and Saif Zaib glances the ball to fine leg for his fifth four.

The fifth ball of the over strikes Zaib on the hand and we'll have a pause while he recovers.

He's fine to continue and ducks under a bouncer to end the over.

  15. Postpublished at 15:35 British Summer Time 6 April

    Yorks v Leics 278-8

This ninth wicket stand between Mike and Scriven is becoming irksome to Yorkshire, they have added 63 runs since the dismissal of Cox.

  16. wicket

WICKET Agar c Gregory b Aldridge 0published at 15:32 British Summer Time 6 April

    Kent 209-7 v Somerset

Two wickets in the over for Kasey Aldridge!

He had Aussie quick Wes Agar looking uncomfortable and after a no-ball gives him an extra delivery, Aldridge has Agar easily caught at slip by Lewis Gregory for a painful duck

Can Somerset run through the Kent tail?

  17. Postpublished at 15:29 British Summer Time 6 April

    Sussex v Northants 273-6

Four more to Lewis McManus, driving Hudson-Prentice through wide mid on.

Saif Zaib plays and misses and attempted cover drive off Lamb at the other end, but he connects next ball with a dab into the leg side for one.

Lamb bowls a half volley on leg and McManus clips it through mid wicket for four.

A promising seventh wicket partnership is building - now worth 25.

  18. wicket

WICKET Finch c Banton b Aldridge 54published at 15:28 British Summer Time 6 April

    Kent 207-6 v Somerset

Kent had moved past 200, but Somerset strike back.

Kasey Aldridge bangs one in short, too short, but it is slapped straight to short midwicket and that is a soft one.

Harry Finch is rightly disappointed after doing so much good work.

  19. 'Wells looks so frustrated'published at 15:28 British Summer Time 6 April

    Lancs 93-2 v Surrey

    Mark Church
    BBC Radio London commentator

Seemingly almost from nowhere but Luke Wells looks so frustrated, is going to look at the wind and say well it didn't get going.

It wasn't a lot of room to play that shot out there but it's straight into the hands of the fielder.

  20. wicket

WICKET - Wells c Lawrence b Lawes 40published at 15:27 British Summer Time 6 April

    Lancs 93-2 v Surrey

It had been looking too easy for Lancashire, but Luke Wells has given his wicket away.

The opener hoicked a short one from Tom Lawes to deep square leg, and straight to Dan Lawrence - he's having a great first day for Surrey so far.
